Is Mitt Becoming More Conservative?
The American Thinker ^ | August 31, 2012 | Rosslyn Smith

Posted on 08/31/2012 12:49:30 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

...Protecting the middle class might be the theme of Obama's campaign ads, but the defining movement of this campaign came when Obama belittled the efforts of Main Street America when he stated that "you didn't build that." Those sneering words about smart, hardworking people revealed the ugly side of Obama's redistributionalist ideology. As in 2008, most of the media accept all the carefully scripted images of Obama as Gospel truth while they busy themselves trying to either hide or spin away all those extemporaneous words and deeds that display Obama's true beliefs and character as being either out of context or aberrational....

This campaign is coming down to two competing views of America. As it plays out, I think something very profound may be happening to Mitt Romney. Romney reminds me of a good many smart businessmen I have known. They live their own lives by a set of solid small-c conservative rules, but they are too busy solving smaller daily problems to think much about political conservatism as a coherent system. Such people often pay lip service to the left-of-center conventional media wisdom about big government and public morality even as they rigorously practice all the bourgeois virtues of thrift, hard work, neighborliness, sobriety, and sexual continence in their personal affairs.

....this very smart, very competitive man is facing an opponent who is perhaps the most rigidly ideological man ever to become president. Romney doesn't like what he sees happening to the nation, nor does he much like the person he is running against. Confronted with the problem of beating not just the person, but also the ideology, and then fixing what is broken, Romney may be discovering for the very first time that he is actually far more ideological than he ever thought he was.

By all means. I will predict that JimRob will likely state that...

I believe the major way to gain a stronger social conservative foothold in America is via fiscal conservatism.

Sigh. You can't separate the two. Period.

That isn’t dissent.

Sure it is.

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly some FR "Conservatives" applaud the GOP-E whenever it attacks the Paul dissenters when it is simultaneously attacking us Conservative dissenters. I guess that it's OK when it's only the Paulbots who are being smited though.

Talk about a hypocritical double standard...

Thanks pal... I am trying to change that. Those that cannot support mitt should treat other FReepers as they wish to be treated. Those that support mitt should also be civil... we all should. We can be passionate without being mean. Do unto others... it is the golden rule. We should save the venom for ALL of our common enemies... and we are family here... not enemies... except for the trolls and they are overtly obvious to all. All we can do is set examples for others. I care too much about FR and our Conservative community to cause ill will. Have a great day friend.

My remark was more towards the GOP’s treatment of Akin.

Would it absolutely kill you to try a different tactic when there is a Marxist in the WH instead of the usual “let me apply a purity test to my conservative friends on FR?”

who’s “banging” on other conservatives? Read my post 13 and tell me who is “banging” — I pointed out statistics and on us focussing on saving the 99.9% of babies that are due to abortion reasons that not even the left can defend.

You do not have to take such a defensive stance my FRiend... you will not be attacked or impuned by me. I was just trying to point out that Sarah is active and working for TEA Party ideology and its candidates... and that she is effective. I worship CHRIST my friend... and no man or woman. I appreciate your response though.

I am sure conservative. More than I even realized until this past year. I get the NEED to DEFEAT OBAMA. But I am not insulting my intelligence by ignoring the reality before us. To Me Romney is NOT Conservative in any way , shape or form. He is dashes of Bush mixed with dashes of McCain and a slice of Christie. Paul Ryan is tons more conservative, but nowhere near Sarah Palin or Herman Cain.

I voted for bush twice.... but there was a stark contrast between the candidates..

I voted for mcpain, as there was a stark contrast between the candidates..

In this case there is very little, from a political ideology point, between the two..

as I said, i do not listen to what people say, i look at what they do...

mcromneys record speaks for itself, ad nauseum..

take his lifelong stance against conservatism, combine it with his fathers stance, his 2008 stance and add in the recent rule changes, put them into a blender and blend together, then dump it out onto the table..

do you know what you get?

A coordinated effort to drive out and render irrelevent the conservative / constitutionalist wing of the republican party..

We were snookered by the rehabilitation of George Bush.

Not this time.

and with Romney we are starting out with worst to begin with

folks around here just have to have their cult of personality

and then begin the purges of dissenters

given JR’s views on Romney I don’t see him tossing the bolt at Romney criticizing here

We shall see

sorry to harpies out there...gonna be sorta dull eh?

no cool people cliques or high school halls to monitor with glee

just watching a piece last night on the current electoral layout and it seems the Forces of Romney have given up on Virginia. This state has a majority Republican Congressional delegation, a Republican dominated state legislature that controls both houses, a Republican Governor, Republican lt. Governor and a Republican Attorney General ~ and yet the Republican party can't quite figure out how to get people to vote for Romney.

Think there might be a problem with Romney?
