Here's the front page for the New York Times's national edition, the day after Paul Ryan's speech at the Republican National Convention:
Peter Roskam, the Illinois Republican congressman and deputy majority whip, said the front page makes Ryan look like the "son of Satan."

Unfortunately for the
Times, the VAST majority of the readership is going to think it's either a failed "artistic" photo or a failed attempt to make some sort of comment. Likely both.
It's a failure, in any event.

I know what their aims are, but the photo is surprisingly flattering, better looking than an animated Ryan. It’s more like some Spanish Jesuit blackrobe in South America or Japan with the pagans.

I like the picture. To me he looks like a sweet, nice guy who is the only real and honest guy in a room full of no face politicians. Only he in the picture emerges as real. All those guys behind him are phony and probably Democrats.

It looks like it was taken by a 10 year old with her first camera, or a granny with a cell phone.

I will never forget how during the 2000 election, the New York Times sat on the story about Bush’s DUI until 10 days before the election. Now, had I been Bush, on January 21st, 2001, the New York Times would find itself being audited by the IRS.

Looks pretty bad to me.

I’d fault the RNC for giving the NYT the opportunity to capture that.
They’ve had too much of that blazing red background behind the speakers, though it seems they used it less after the first day.

What a
weird choice for a picture!
It's like saying, "Yes. We are biased!"

“Not a terrible photo from the NYT point of view. They want him to look small, insignificant, and out of place. Looks like the only way they can do that is photographically.”
And controlled by evil shadowy forces.
To: Free ThinkerNY
A transparent and clumsy attempt to diminish Paul Ryan by composing a photo of him with (a) a 'flaming' red background, (b) larger, shadowy men behind him and, (c) Ryan cut off so that he appears to be about three feet tall. This probably pleases the Marxists at the New York Times who, no doubt, think they are clever beyond belief but most observers can see it as the puerile attempt at mockery and insult that it really is. Besides that, few Americans actually see (or read) The New York Times anymore and their attempt to denigrate Paul Ryan with this lame photo will have no effect on the election.

Absolutely. There is no reason to publish a picture like that unless you are deliberately trying to depict someone negatively.
