Court Rules Israel Wasn’t at Fault in U.S. Activist’s Death By DANIELLE ZIRI and JODI RUDOREN
HAIFA, Israel — An Israeli judge ruled on Tuesday that the state bore no responsibility for the death of Rachel Corrie, the young American woman who was run over by a military bulldozer in 2003 as she protested housing demolitions in the Gaza Strip.
The lengthy verdict in the civil case, read to a courtroom packed with supporters of Ms. Corrie’s family here, called the death an accident that occurred during “a military activity meant to prevent terrorist activity.”
“She chose to put herself in danger,” said the judge, Oded Gershon. “She could have easily distanced herself from the danger like any reasonable person would.”
Since her death, Ms. Corrie has become an international symbol of the Palestinian resistance. A play based on her writings has been performed in 10 countries, and a ship in an aid flotilla to Gaza bore her name. Numerous books and documentaries have told of how Ms. Corrie, a 23-year-old student, stood in an orange vest with a bullhorn between a bulldozer and the home of a Palestinian family in March 2003 during the height of the second intifada, or uprising.
A lawyer representing the state said after the hearing on Tuesday that the driver of the bulldozer did not see Ms. Corrie, and could not have.
But at a news conference after the verdict, the Corrie family’s lawyer, Hussein Abu Hussein, showed pictures of Ms. Corrie taken that day in 2003, pointing out her bright garb that he said “anyone could have seen.”

Your Post #24 reminded me a somewhat similiar incident that occurred back in 1987.
Another young idealistic (IOW, mush-headed) person from the Pacific Northwest, Benjamin Linder, decided that he was gonna go down and help the Sandinistas. He was appalled by the Reagan Administration’s support of the Contras.
An engineer by training, he went down there and served in a rural area, helping with hydroelectric projects. He also started carrying a weapon - ostensibly for self-defense against the Contras. Whatever his reason, that made him a combatant.
He was killed in a Contra attack in April of 1987 - ostensibly murdered by the Contras. At least, that’s what his parents and friends said.

In short, he put himself in a dangerous spot and chose sides in a conflict that wasn’t his. He, like Rachel Corrie, ended up dead as a result of their “idealism”.

They aren’t showing this picture on the news feeds. Only the ones that make the little traitor look like a saint.

I hope she still wins the Darwin Award though.

If you do a google image search “Rachel Corrie death” you’ll come across the sequence of the encounter, from the approach by Corrie’s group, the ISM (International Solidarity Movement) to the fatal aftermath. (Includes Arabs draping her corpse with a fake American flag. The protesting group split into two clusters of about four and two. No arabs involved, from closeups published all the ISM folk were American/Euro.
I had never considered her a possible suicide before but after viewing the series of photographs I now suspect that to be a very strong possibility. Chief factor being the demeanor of her cohort around her moments after the collision. Couple this with the photos of her isolated, out in front. There’s no way that I would have stood still as her friends appear to have done. Finally, its clear from earlier photos that aside from being very angry, she had a very serious eating disorder. The clues might not be evident unless one has personal witnessed and tried to deal with one so afflicted. We develop very sharp eyes.
She is a beautiful neanderthal.
I’ve wondered myself if she was set up to be a “martyr,” a useful idiot designed to drum up hatred toward Israel in the U.S. for killing an allegedly-innocent American. Except it only worked with leftists who hate Israel anyway. Everyone else just started telling St. Pancake jokes.

I’m considering the same thing about her. But keep in mind she volunteered for the job. All depends on the movie she was running in her head.
I’ve been angry about Corrie since she did that, angry at her really.
I just went back and looked at the picture again. Now I can’t help but feel sad for her stupidity.
No wonder her parents are trying to make her into a martyr, she died for a broken down fence. How stupid can you get? Who would want to admit they raised someone so dim-witted?
Too bad Rachel didn’t bring her towel.
I read Bon Mots post, but BM hasn’t posted ANYTHING as a source yet. Till then maybe you can judge her condition, as much as anyone can from photos, by doing the google image search (safe search off) “Rachel Corrie death”. Hard to be sure she was dead right there. There are photos of her body in what appears to be a morgue, with two Arabs, draped with a fake American flag. They left her face exposed to show the sutured facial injury. Not horrific, I’ve had friends injured much worse and they walked out of the ER same night.
(That was REALLY good!!)
