BIRMINGHAM, Ala. The Justice Department will establish its first civil rights unit in the southern state of Alabama, the agency said Tuesday -- a development that comes in the wake of the state's crackdown on illegal immigration, which raised concerns about Alabama's compliance with federal laws.
.
.
The department's decision to place a civil rights unit in Alabama shows the state has problems guaranteeing legal equality years after the civil rights era ended, said Shay Farley, legal director of Alabama Appleseed, a public interest legal office based in Montgomery.
"It highlights the fact that the war isn't over," she said.
Isabel Rubio, the head of an advocacy group for Hispanic immigrants, said the formation of a citizen's advisory board to work with the new unit would make it easier for members of the immigrant community to stay in contact with civil rights attorneys.
.
.
The unit is being formed as Birmingham prepares to mark the 50th anniversary of the landmark civil rights protests of 1963, when authorities used police dogs and fire hoses on protesters marching in the streets against legalized racial segregation.

Between this and their efforts to prevent States from combating voter fraud it’s become pretty clear that the DOJ is now just another arm of Obama’s re-election committee. Most corrupt president EVAH!
What a strange world.
The so-called Justice Department, trying to force states to violate the law just like they do.
Eventually, the states under Justice Department Civil Rights control need to form a group lawsuit against the federal government, on the grounds that this law is open ended and does not apply to all states, as well as it is being applied whimsically.
Alaska is currently suing the government over this. Changes to their voting system were placed under Justice Department control because they held a vote in which there were no ballot written in the language of some indigenous peoples.
Peoples who *did not have a written language*!
Nonsensical, and no legitimate reason for Justice Department scrutiny of voting in Alaska.
And its application elsewhere has been just as whimsical.
It needs to stop.
doj=department of “JUST US”
The war hasn't started, bitch.
It’s pretty bad when our own government sides against us. Actions by the DOJ and executive branch bare this out. I guess that if obama can’t raise his own personal army here, he can raise one in mexico. Running guns, backing drug cartels, preventing the border patrol from doing its job, and attacking anyone who wants to get our southern border under control, sure sounds like a south american style coup in the making. If you think about it, with 12-20 million illegals residing in the US, and having no regard for our laws to begin with, and looking for someone to give them freebies, I could see him actually being able to pull it off.
The list, Ping
Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
More anti American crap form the Democrats.
Lawsuits don’t stop the Progs. The states need to keep doing what the need to do and force the show down.
“to mark the 50th anniversary of the landmark civil rights protests of 1963, when DEMOCRATS used police dogs and fire hoses on protesters
Agreed that this is nothing more than further suppression by BHO’s DoJ.
The state Demo(n)>c<rats have just replaced their lousy nominee for chief justice of state supreme court with what looks to be a normal candidate. He may well win. His father was also a federal judge in AL and was assassinated at home by a mail bomb in the late 1980s. Trouble is, his wife is the current, appointed by BHO, federal DA for the northern district of AL. What could go wrong with that???
The GOP nominee for chief justice of the state supreme court is Roy Moore. Hope he learned his lesson last time when he was removed from that same office.
The local fishwrap, Birmingham News, has plunged hard left since BHO’s election - new owner. It will be transitioning to a 3-day/week publishing schedule this fall. Anybody out there gone through a similar situation with their local newspaper? How did it go? Hard to see this will improve their coverage and it will have no impact on its way left of center editorial page. The editorial page this a.m. was supporting this new round of federal suppression.
Precisely!!
...and she’ll be one of the first ones banging in panic on a FReeper(or type) door for protection once it does.

It will take the first two years of Romney’s presidency just to undo all the crap nobama has done in the past four.
Gonna be lots of people very busy. At least there better be!
