One of my Missouri friends called me back last evening and he has recanted. He is still pissed at Akin but, he's going to vote for him because he can't stand McCaskill. The surprising part was this: He said that everybody he has talked to, about this, within the past couple of days, feels just like he does. Akin may be semi-brain dead, but they cannot and will NOT vote for McCaskill. There are 73 days before Election Day (counting today). I have a feeling than when a lot of people, who are angry at Akin now, walk into that voting booth, they just will NOT be able to vote for McCaskill and will pull the lever for Akin. If I lived in Missouri, that would be me.
I've got a feeling cooler heads will prevail over the next 73 Days and a lot of people will swing back to Akin, simply out of hatred for her thighness. The first poll that shows the race tied or Akin one point ahead; it's gonna be on. Man, if Akin dude does pull out a win that would be the shock heard 'round the world and Claire McCaskill would have to be put on suicide watch.
I understood what he meant, although he didn’t explain the emotional response to rape well, at all. But, statistically, what percentage of women are raped, and statistically, what percentage of them are ovulating, and the numbers become dramatically miniscule. And then you add the emotional response to the trauma, and the numbers get smaller.
It doesn’t matter is what he said is true or not...the MSM is going to use it as a club and that’s all there is to it.
They will beat him with it until election day...and if he wins (unlikely) he will be known as the Senator from Legitimate Rape...or some such.
The media is very powerful, still...and they will not let this go. Too many voters are stupid enough to buy their take on this.

You will not get an argument out of me. I totally understand. Guess it will come down to “Who do I hate the least?” when Missourians walk into the voting booth.
I’m a Missourian. I didn’t vote for Todd Akin in the primaries, I voted for Steelman.
However, now that the primaries are over, I support Todd Akin. We Missourian’s chose him to run against McCaskill, and now we have to stand by him. That’s the way it goes. I’m not a sore loser, but I’ve noticed many here are!
Here’s my biggest issue: Claire McCaskill and her Leftist ideology kills babies, Todd Akin wants to save those babies.
Sure, what Todd Akin said about rape & pregnancy was stupid and insensitive, but I’ve looked through the 10 Commandments, again, and I don’t see anywhere in there where stupidity is one of those 10 sins. However, murder is!!!
If Judgment Day were today, McCaskill would be toast for her position on abortion. However, does anyone see God punishing Akin for his pro-life views, no matter how stupid his justifications are? I, for one, certainly do not see God condemning Akin for his pro-life stance, but I do see Him condemning McCaskill to Hell.
So, what’s the bottom line on this rant from me? Conservatives from all over America have crucified Todd Akin for making a silly, misguided comment. They have lost sight of the BIG picture!: McCaskill is the ENEMY, not Akin!
Those of you here who have stuck your noses into Missouri politics just to relentlessly slam Akin and call for his removal from the race, UP YOURS!!! You ARE NOT working for the Conservatives, you are working for the enemy!
So, either butt out, or come out of the closet and declare your love for Obama and McCaskill!

Not really; I’ve resigned myself to the fact that the Dems will keep this seat. But, it could get interesting.
Ain’t gonna happen. You probably haven’t seen local TV here, but it isn’t helping Akin. You view of Missouri is also mistaken. McCain barely won the state in 2008. St. Louis, Kansas City, and Columbia are solid blue. The rest of the state is red, but that makes it 50-50. Not only will Akin lose, but Obama could now win. Unbelievable.
Time and distance will heal this wound.

I'd like to see a study of violent non consent rape that backs up the 5% figure claimed. Not the "he says, she says" rape that most recent studies use. Since feminists has morphed "rape" into just about anything, recent "rape" victim studies are worthless.

My comments were focused on the biology lesson we received in the next breath from the “legitmate rape”. The first was bad but the biology lesson classified him as virtually certifiable.

You also have some women claiming rape just to justify getting an abortion. From what I can ascertain, Akin’s “legitimate rape” comment was an attempt to delineate between those and actual cases of rape.
However, be that as it may, abortions from rape and incest are extremely rare. Even the Lefturds on Wikipedia admit that rape accounts for only 1% of abortions, and incest accounts for only 0.5% of abortions.

I don’t have any doubt that the vast majority of conservatives will vote for Akin in November. The question is how much support among independents and moderate Democrats he can attract after his past gaffs and the gaffs yet to come.
He can squeak out a victory ONLY, and this crucial, the GOP and other Conservatives STOP relentlessly hammering him and re-open up their wallets for him.
McCaskill had, as of July 18, $3.5 million in campaign contributions. Of course, I’m positive she’s hovering near the $10 million mark with her hidden loot in her war chest. Akin, as of July 18, had only about $500,000. The GOP and other conservative groups have withdrawn their cash infusions right after the primaries, so I’m figuring he’s still under $1 million, right now.
So, my gut feeling? Akin can squeak it out only if the Right will just STFU and start supporting him again via cash while focusing on McCaskill, NOT Akin!
Do I think this will happen? Yes! I think the Right will eventually realize their idiocy in all of this and start supporting Akin again. However, if they don’t do it soon, as in within a week or two, Akin is toast.
So, it’s up to the Conservatives and GOP:
Do you want to keep the Senate in the hands of the Democrats, or do you want to hand it over to the Republicans?
If you want to SAVE AMERICA and take back the Senate, that battle begins in MISSOURI!
The clock is ticking; you only have a week or two to decide if you can swallow your pride and support Akin with your cash and by mercilessly hammering McCaskill; or, do you keep your foolish pride and give America to the Commies again?

Indeed they will. And, the argument is not about what conservatives will do, they will vote for the conservative. The argument is about what the independents will do. The St. Louis Dispatch reported this:
Independent voters said by a more than 2-to-1 ratio that Akin should leave the race. And they flipped from supporting Akin by a 5-4 ratio in July to supporting McCaskill by a similar ratio last week.
In a state that is very evenly divided, the independent vote is the key to any victory. Huckabee, suckabee, luckerbee, and all the king's horses and men cannot put this one back together again. McCaskill will be reelected.

Jim Talent-1,006,941 votes. 47.3%.
A difference of 48,314 votes
Folks, 48K ain't an insurmountable target!! Go back to fall of 2006. Bush pounded on terribly by media. Third Battle of Fallujah commenced in Sept. and ongoing through election. IEDs. Car bombings. Casualties. Bush seemed off his game, even to those who supported him.
In MO, Jim Talent, almost professorial like in actions, demeanor seemed disengaged.Michael J. Fox came to MO and voiced his calls for stem cell research.
Ma rode in on wave of anti-Bushism. And yet she won by less than 50K votes out of more than 2 million cast!
Come on people! Get out the vote. Otherwise, it's six more years of hearing Ma squawking on TV. Read:Nails on a chalk board.
