If all politics is local politics, it must be said: This is a bad week to be a Missourian.
No, I dont live in Missouri. But Im a conservative and a pro-life advocate, so thanks to Rep. W. Todd Akin, I must necessarily worry about the U.S. Senate race in Missouri, a contest that should have been an easy win for my side.
Mr. Akin thrust himself into the Hall of Fame of 21st Century Political Stupidity, an incredible accomplishment in the age of Anthony Weinergate Weiner, then-South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanfords rendezvous with a lover in Argentina, and anything uttered by Vice President Joseph R. Biden.
By using the words legitimate and rape in a dependent clause, and by opining that pregnancy is less likely to occur under traumatic circumstances because the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down, Mr. Akin turned himself into a lightning rod of controversy...

The majority of Tea Party members want Akin out.One of the top women working 24-7 from the Chicago Tea Party on the election of Mark Kirk [IL] was one of the ugliest pro-aborts I've ever spoken to. I was shocked! Evidently they're not all pro-life. Here's Mark's record:
Curious why pro Life conservatives around here are so busy acting as propaganda agents for the Infanticide on Demand Obama campaign?
Or were you two so busy bitching about Romney that you missed the fact that the GOP just put the strongest pro life plank ever in their 2012 platform?
Ok, we know the list of politicians who want Akin gone, let’s see the list of those who want him to stay in (without the democrats on that list).
Marybeth Hicks is a weekly columnist for the The Washington Times and an author and speaker on politics, media, parenting, and the culture.
Knock yourself out over this drama. You and the others
are making it worse. Let it be so time can help.
It is utterly pathetic how easily the GOP/Conservative movement falls for these Democrat Propaganda machine tactics of diversion and distraction
This is not about the GOP vote in Missouri. Most GOPers will vote for him given no other alternative. I would even tho he is a blooming idiot. It is about the independent vote there that was heavily vs Obamacare and ready to throw McCaskill out until Akin blew himself up.
You’ve reflected my thoughts exactly. I guess I’ve been too chicken to post them—fear of being banned.
C’mon, you can’t be serious. Which retread are you?
jeez..give it a rest..let this story die
Any Republican that has overwhelming backing by Democrats must suck...
“Cmon, you cant be serious. Which retread are you?”
C’mon, you can’t be serious. The party slavishness got old about 1,000 Romney threads ago.
Gotta be up before you can fall down. The GOP sux.
****************************************************
The GOP sucks? I guess you’ve reached the point where you’re getting close to admitting a desire to defeat GOP candidates?
You must have a very short memory.
Don’t you remember “Mark Foley”?
He is the main reason the GOP lost the house.
So, I would not be so sure that Akin won’t sink the entire ship.
It is regretful that he made those comments.
But he needs to go.
“Today’s standards are that when someone make any stupid thing, after [s]he apologizes , [s]he is forgotten and [s]he can continue ..... as the wrong was not done and it’s history.
Is that good for the young generation ?
No.
Remember how the Democrats defended Clinton during Lewinsky times ...
“ Honest mistake, private life, no mention of lies, etc.”
The result ...... the then young kids and the entire society followed the “presidential” example ........... and now we get this more and more .
As a “good” politician Todd Akin followed the Clinton model ...
However he has been wrong at least on three counts :
1. Atkin is not the POTUS,
2. Atkin is not spelled ..... Clinton
3. Atkin is not a Democrat.
Atkin is not only a selfish politician but also an incompetent one.
As any politician of our times. he speaks first, think after that, and after he start thinking of his stupidity apologizes.
He is dreaming that he is now a “new” transformational figure, he is dreaming that he’s now the “new” Alpha and Omega ....
Poor soul, as any politician, Atkin wants to apologize and continue to disregard the morals and the voters.
Again, Atkin continue to do [wrong things] with out thinking of their consequences.
How could the voters elect someone like Atkin, who does something and after that thinks of the consequences of his actions ?
Today we’ve gotten enough such politicians in DC and also we’ve gotten 16 Trillions on debts, more than 8% unemployment rate, more than 20 million illegal immigrants, almost 40% of people not paying taxes and the list goes on.
Mr Atkin we do not need you in DC, remain in Missouri and start rehabilitating yourself.
Mr. Atkin be a gentleman, cut your loses and go .....”
Saw it in the comments
A man who "thinks for himself" doesn't support any of these dishonest cynical critters. Otherwise, he'll always be with some or other mob.
It’s funny. When this first broke, everyone said the libs would hammer this from now until election day. Now, it seems to me like it is the conservatives who just won’t shut up about it.
Do you want to kill the baby of mommy who says she was “raped”? Is that your quest? What if mommy wont testify ? What if mommy is a liar and just expedient?
At least this takes the attention from Rep. Kerry Gauthier (D-MN) who was caught having sex at a rest stop with a 17 year old boy.
Dead girl / live boy - where have the standards gone?
Re: “Let this die” - “you and others are making this worse”
Wrong - Akin’s keeping it alive and spending a lot of money to keep it going
