Selfish Akin bringing GOP down with him

If “all politics is local politics,” it must be said: This is a bad week to be a Missourian.

No, I don’t live in Missouri. But I’m a conservative and a pro-life advocate, so thanks to Rep. W. Todd Akin, I must necessarily worry about the U.S. Senate race in Missouri, a contest that should have been an easy win for my side.

Mr. Akin thrust himself into the Hall of Fame of 21st Century Political Stupidity, an incredible accomplishment in the age of Anthony “Weinergate” Weiner, then-South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford’s rendezvous with a lover in Argentina, and anything uttered by Vice President Joseph R. Biden.

By using the words “legitimate” and “rape” in a dependent clause, and by opining that pregnancy is less likely to occur under traumatic circumstances because “the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” Mr. Akin turned himself into a lightning rod of controversy...

Do the ppl of Missouri want Akin, who listened to wrong info and said something they think is stupid or do they want to participate in voting for the dems who want to kill every single baby that isn’t wanted at any time. And they will do that with the voter’s permission. May God open their eyes to see the horror of it.

I had the TV on in the store. The woman laugh at him.Get it Him.I counseled a raped woman.I could see she had a cast on her arm and a healing black eye and was crying. She was pregnant. She was walking in to have an abortion with her best friend. Her best friend came out later and said she changed her mind.Wanna see life and death-stand outside an abortion chamber.

What are you talking about? He said that a woman’s body can prevent pregnancy in the case of “legitimate rape”. I am a woman and I can tell you that is nonsense. It’s one thing when conservatives are roasted for speaking the truth, though it be unpleasant. It is another when they are delusional.
And ps I think you are a troll.

I guess Republicans are no longer allowed to make the wrong choice in words, they must immediately step down.

It’s not a matter of the wrong choice of words. What he said was idiotic. It is indefensible. No other way to describe it.

Amen! I think there are a bunch of people out there who want to see the results of the primary overturned and their candidate running instead and are using this as a pretext to do so.

He apologized for it.

And yes, it is a matter of the wrong choice of words and the wrong choice of topic.

The number of % of pregnancies that occur after violent rape is irrelevant to the issue of making it an exception to outlawing abortion.

He made a mistake, admitted it, and now it is time to move on.

Repeatedly posting this sentiment will not render it less idiotic.

Hope that helps.

Actually, it makes a great deal of sense seeing the overreaction and hysteria going on FR.

No, it doesn't. Most FReepers aren't from Missouri, and knew nothing about the GOP Senate primary or its winner prior to Akin's idiotic outburst.

I want him out and I don't care who replaces him as long as it's a pro-life conservative.

You're grasping at a little scenario you invented in your mind that has nothing to do with reality, you're using it to cast a political aspersion on Palin's supporters, and you consider yourself savvy for having come up with it.

And it's just moronic.

I haven't invented anything, I have just put forth a theory.

I think it has some substance.

“No you are Democrat bot clown who thinks he is clever racing around Conservative websites posturing as an Uber Conservative while doing nothing but trash talking the GOP and its candidates.”

It’s hard to tell the trolls who act stupid from the fringer stubbornly blind squirrel who really are. Maybe it doesnt matter, because reality and facts are stubborn things, and they both seem to defy them.

The reason every conservative of note said Todd Akin would be doing the right thing by stepping aside is SIMPLE:

- Ras Poll: Todd Akin 38%, McCaskill 48%
- Recent polls any other Republican show McCaskill LOSING by 5 to 10 points.

So Akin is trailing any other Republican by 15 points.

Akin runs - we lose. Akin is unelectable.

Akin gets out and we put another Republican in there - WE WIN.

It’s that simple, and all this posturing that its about abortion or “Party Bosses” (hint: Akin is a career politician, he’s just out for himself here) or anything else i beside the point ... NOPE! It’s about whether we WIN this seat or lose it.

Akin is losing the seat and we need to field a new candidate if we want to win.

Shame on you for thinking a politician is perfect.”

Nobody is perfect and nobody is proposing that.

However, when a politician is running for an office and says something so bad that it makes him unelectable for that office, it would be helpful for him not to be so selfish as to refuse to allow a better candidate take his place.

Akin is down 10 points in latest poll, he lost 20 points over this.

Akin is putting his own selfish interests ahead of what’s best for those he claims to represent. A majority of Missouri voters in the PPP want him to withdraw, and guess what - most of them are Republicans!

After he loses, we will suffer from his selfishness for 6 years - or more!

“As a “good” politician Todd Akin followed the Clinton model ...
However he has been wrong at least on three counts :
1. Atkin is not the POTUS,
2. Atkin is not spelled ..... Clinton
3. Atkin is not a Democrat.

Atkin is not only a selfish politician but also an incompetent one.”

That’s good. I like it.

One of the lamest defenses ever is “well, the Democrats do it.”

Yeah, but we are not Democrats FOR A REASON.

“Poor soul, as any politician, Atkin wants to apologize and continue to disregard the morals and the voters.”

Yes, there is something a tad sleazy about those ‘Christian’ politicians who lean heavily on the ‘forgiveness’ stuff while passing straight through the ‘accountability’ stuff. I can forgive Akin 100%, but accountability requires he step aside so he doesnt cost us a senate seat.

It is not possible for anyone to ‘make it worse’ than Akin already made it.

We are only stating the facts.

Akin will lose the race. He is down 10 points already and McCaskill hand-picked him as her opponent with $2 million because she has $10 million and his own statements to run her race with.

“Shame on you for thinking a politician is perfect.”

Shame on you for bowing and scraping to a selfish career politician rather than demanding better from him.
Akin has let us all down, has made himself an unelectable foil of use only to Democrats, and cutting him slack now only makes it worse.

jeez..give it a rest..let this story die”

It wont die. Lib-media wont let it, so long as he is a candidate. Remember Christine ODonnell? They harped on her even though she was an unelectable candidate. Same here. Akin cant win.
But Democrats and media will make him a big part of their convention, they will run many races on GOP “war on women” Akin. ... Akin will be made TIME man of the year if it helps the liberals and pro-aborts.
