Tropical Storm Isaac threatens to dampen the Republican National Convention Monday in Tampa, Florida. National media outlets are having a grand time anticipating a Grand Old Party washout. Tampa mayor Bob Buckhorn (D) announced Wednesday that he is absolutely prepared to call off the convention next week, with anticipated attendance of 70,000 delegates, party officials, journalists, protesters and others. Buckhorn has not indicated that he would attempt to mitigate liberal protests or a hastily planned Joe "Plugs" Biden visit to Tampa during the convention.
Time will tell. Stay tuned...

Recall 2004 Ivan did exactly that...
The only thing I would disagree with Masters on is his assertion of 88 degree water. While there are pockets of it and even higher in Fla. Bay, Mollasses reef light right now is 84.6 with the highest in the last 24 hours 85. Still a few degrees above normal but not 88. The stream typically runs between 80 and 84 degrees. in the winter it can get into the high 70’s. There are warmer pockets but 88 is really up there. You might find some 88 degree water near the Cuban shore but even then when all this rain comes down and the wind blows water temps usually go the other way.
Wow thoroughly amazing.
Watching the convoys of linemen and the cherry-pickers headed toward the storm areas always causes a big lump to form in my throat. It’s another reason I love this big, beautiful country.
Yes,he had to leave family vacation 45 minutes after getting there a few weeks ago.Was back in a few days.Send him over some cookies:)
And knocked out our power briefly. We called it Ivan Jr.
Four shelters are open to accommodate those people in the Keys who want
to have a safe place to go during the approaching storm. Shelters at
Key West High School on Flagler Avenue... Sugarloaf school on upper
Sugarloaf Key... Stanley switlik school in Marathon... and Coral Shores
High School in Islamorada opened at 200 PM today. If you live in a
Mobile home... on a boat... in a low lying area... or are homeless... you
are strongly recommended to go to a shelter for your own safety.
Key West International Airport will stop commercial traffic this
evening at 7 PM after the last commercial flight. The closure of Key
West International Airport will last through Sunday. Marathon
Airport will also be closed at 7 PM today. In addition... the last
Greyhound bus is scheduled to leave the Key West terminal at 530 PM
this evening.
County offices... sheriff's offices... schools... and the County courts
will be closed on Monday.
City buses will not be running Sunday. However... extra buses are
scheduled today to aid the voluntary move to shelters. City of Key
West offices will be closed on Monday.
Did I get it right is the course now more a direct hit for Key West and less of a hit for the middle and Upper Keys? Also do we know how big the eye is?
hey Rodguy
Thank for the ping NN
Hey worker how in the world are U?
270 miles SSE of Nassau, Bahamas
Moving NW at 21mph
Max sustained winds 60mph, 997mb
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 205 miles,
mainly to the north of the center.
As best I can tell, there isn’t a closed, measurable eyewall at this point. Current center track point crosses the lower Keys, east of Key West.
Thanks NN, as always for the great updates. Hope our friends in Tampa stay safe. The good news is, that the wet weather should keep folks inside, so occupy won’t have many folks to mess with.
Thank you again, and
May God keep watch.
Tatt
I am well thank you Rodguy - I didn’t make it to the keys yet as I ended up back in school (and at my age eh?), and just got sideways with stuff.
Like a figure skater ...Looks like Isaac's pulling his arms in and begining to spin faster
dead calm here
.
Stay safe. It was beautiful here in Delray Beach today. Well, overcast, but not stormy (like yesterday and especially last night, we had terrible lightning).
