TAMPA (CBS Tampa/AP) Tampas mayor warns that the Republican National Convention could be canceled if Tropical Storm Isaac heads for the city.
Mayor Bob Buckhorn told CNN that he is more concerned about the safety of his people than holding the convention.
Absolutely were prepared to call it off, Buckhorn explained to CNN. I mean, human safety and human life trumps politics. I think the RNC recognizes that.
Buckhorn also added that the city has contingency plans ready in case of an emergency.
I dont think its going to be a factor in this particular convention, Buckhorn told CNN. But we are prepared in the event that it is.
Isaac could threaten Florida as early as next week.

In a way, this could end being the ‘mother of all’ hurricane parties... ;)

I should certainly hope so.
Probably won’t know for sure until Thursday or Friday (Saturday’s a better bet in my opinion) as to whether Isaac is headed for Tampa.
OK . . . let’s prepare to call off Tampa.
If Isaac follows the current track the land mass is going to break it up. Strong winds won’t be a problem but lots of rain might cause flooding.
Last election was a tsunami. This election is a hurricane!

Move it to another place and hold it after the democrat convention.
And the mayor has convention cancelling powers? This schmuck needs to hold his tongue or his words will be used by any other city competing against Tampa for convention/event
OWS protestors won’t like the driving rain and wind.
But politics? They love politics!
Well, they should start considering alternatives just to be safe. Look to Jacksonville.
All the venues are in preplanned Category 1 and 2 hurricane evacuation zones. It's certainly within the mayor's power to withdraw all police protection from the convention if he wants, and I'm sure the RNC would cancel the convention were an evacuation ordered anyway.

Thanks to CNN, 14 people have heard this message.
We've had these storms from time to time ~ Richmond and DC are at greater risk than Tampa though because the cold front that'd steer it away has already passed!
We are doomed!

Good to see the mayor is Pro Life.
Move it to Jacksonville. We’re a conservative and military town! And hurricanes almost never hit us.
Tell the mayor, it’s not his call.
If he wants to save somebody, tell the SS it’s too dangerous for slo Joe Biden.
You beat me to it. See #17.
Move it to the Omaha/Coucil Bluffs area, we haven’t had hardly ANY rain this summer.
