Palin: "I could get behind" Steelman 3rd party run
interview on FOX (Greta) | 08/21/12

Posted on 08/21/2012 7:39:55 PM PDT by Hugin

Just finished interview on FOX. Akin should step aside, otherwise Steelman should run 3rd party, which she would support.

McCaskill is going to win anyway at this point. After thinking it over I’m leaning toward a third party run as a way for the GOP to distance themselves from Akin and save the rest of the ticket.

Yup, that is the way I see it. McCaskill is going to keep this seat for the Democrats now that this idiot Akin won't step aside. We may as well rally to a 3rd party/write-in so we can formally run against him. At least we will help ourselves PR wise.

This would be a good time for Palin to demonstrate some conservative leadership and support Akin.

If she goes with the liberal Pro-Abort RINO lynchmob, she only damages her credibility with real conservative voters. The GOP Establishment does not like her anyway...it would be foolish of her to stand with them

Fact is that her candidate did not get the conservative vote in the primary, Akin did

Steelman can’t run. Kit Bond is the only one that makes any sense, and he has a short name that’s hard to screw up, even for public school graduates.

It’s the only chance.

Agree... the rep powers that be need to descend on Missouri and support the candidate at this point... I’d give a speech pointing out his blunder but reminding voters that his misstatement obviously hurt him in this election...but Claire McCaskill’s vote hurt all Missourians and all Americans and her votes to uphold Obamacare and Obama’s werckless spending are hurting all of us, our childern and our grandchildren and their grandchildren.

Democrats support an alleged Rapist, a Klan member, and a drunk driver who was responsible for a young woman’s death... get real... Akin’s sin in venial by comparison!!

And do you think Akin can defeat McCaskill with his sudden baggage?

No. I see his ceiling now in the 40-46% range. Could go lower. There is a very, very slight chance he could recover and squeak out a victory, but I seriously doubt it.

Ann Wagner or Kit Bond--the ones with the best chance to beat McCaskill now, and probably only as the replacement on the ballot.

Are you kidding, Romney/Ryan can’t afford to be within 50 miles of Akin at this point, he’s toxic and that won’t change for the rest of the election. There’s no way that the Republicans can back him, their only viable strategy is to exile and marginalize him, ignore him as much as possible.

It doesn't have to be a third party run.

It's not over yet. Akin can still read the tea leaves and decide to drop out, but now it will take a court filing.

We can't let people forget this, that there are still options.

So, we have to start talking up the courts, just in case. We cannot allow a liberal judge to force Akin to remain on the ballot if Akin chooses later to withdraw. That would be judicial activism of a nature way beyond the Torricelli/Lautenberg ruling.

With Torricelli, Democrats argued that the voters of New Jersey deserved a competitive election, and therefore the courts must allow Torricelli to be replaced with another candidate. Ironically, they argued this simultaneously with arguing in Hawaii that the recently deceased Patsy Mink should remain on the ballot in the name of fairness, and any votes for her should count for her replacement.

Sympathetic courts sided with the Democrats in both cases, voting to toss the Torch and keep the late Mink.

And let's not even talk about the Mel Carnahan disaster here in Missouri. The reason the courts didn't intervene is that John Ashcroft was too much of a gentleman to contest the legitimacy of running against a dead candidate who had the governor's promise to name his wife in his place if he won. Properly, votes for Carnahan should not have counted at all, but Rules For Democrats trump the rules for the rest of us, it seems.

So, what would they do in Missouri if Akin decides to drop out later? Will they force him to remain despite other courts allowing the deceased to remain in Hawaii and Missouri, and the loser to be replaced in New Jersey?

I'm still hoping some wealthy Repub donor will dispatch a shadowy “fixer” to give the carrot and stick motivational speech to Akin and his family to get him to drop out.

Carrot: Offer to fully fund the brand new Akin Perplexing Female Rape Physiology Research Foundation.

Stick: (Gruesome but Redacted)

Akin just hasn’t had time to make his deal yet. 24 hours wasn’t enough time to set up his “EXIT FEE” and new lobbyist conttract. You want those things in writing.

BTW,I’d take Brunner anyday.

This guy is a loose cannon who created his own mess .
Rather than act like a class act, this delusional fool goes around blaming everyone for his stupid comments .

He is a selfish destructive DC elite who wants power so badly he is blinded by his own actions.

Yep, we got burned in Colorado the other year when Dan Maes did not drop out. Tancredo would most likely been our new Governor. But nooooo.....we got ol’ Chickenpooper instead.

A Steelman third-party run would absolutely guarantee a McCaskill victory. Dumb idea.
++++++++++++++++++++++++

Can’t be done according to MO law, but it was allowed, would be a far more interesting race.

Akin is in flames and there are no extinguishers...never thought I’d see a man commit seppuku on live TV....and he did it with a spork!!!

“Kit Bond is the only one....the only chance.”

They were liking this over at Red State, that I will say.

It was Jim Geraghty’s idea.

I suppose the Republican party could support him (I’ve been told they are basically private funds and they can support who they like, they don’t have to give the party nominee a dime) and certainly any PAC would be free to advocate for him.

Is he famous enough? Is his a “household name” in MO? Can he get all but the 30% or so who would go to Akin, and would that be enough?

Would he do it?

Really?

Reality does not fit your statement.

Akin won because he had some conservative support. Democrats crossing over to vote for this turd is why he won.

They knew he was stupid, so they made sure he won.

She was stern tonight. I don’t know if a third party challenge would work (aka Joe Lieberman). I geuss it would depend on how popular Akin is with Moissouri republican / independent voters.
