Every year he’s been in office, President Obama has hosted an “iftar dinner” to honor Islam in the White House. The President has also each time led his speech with the outlandish nonsense that Thomas Jefferson held the “first iftar dinner” in the White House. And every time it’s been utter hogwash. This year’s speech was no different in that respect.
For the 2012 iftar dinner celebration. Obama said the following:
As I’ve noted before, Thomas Jefferson once held a sunset dinner here with an envoy from Tunisia — perhaps the first Iftar at the White House, more than 200 years ago. And some of you, as you arrived tonight, may have seen our special display, courtesy of our friends at the Library of Congress — the Koran that belonged to Thomas Jefferson. And that’s a reminder, along with the generations of patriotic Muslims in America, that Islam — like so many faiths — is part of our national story.

Jefferson and a lot of other Enlightenment eggheads got caught up in Islam because they saw it as a “rationalist” religion that was Anti-Clerical.
Of course, people like Voltaire more or less projected their own ideals onto Islam than actually appreciating its actual teachings.
That was no Iftar dinner at the White house when Jefferson hosted Abd Al-Rahman from Tunis. He was an Ambassador for the Barbary states and their pirates. Jefferson wanted a stop to the capture of ships by pirates such as the US frigate Philadelphia.
Abd Al-Rahman wasn’t there to negotiate. He told them that the pirates demanded money for protection of the US ships, much like modern mafias or they would continue to disrupt shipping.
At that moment the US declared war on Muslims and the Barbary states and their pirates.

Good Books to read on the subject. Jefferson and others were not to fond of muslims. Obama doesn’t know this or is lying. Jefferson had a koran because he wanted to know why these people were savages and barbaric.

By that logic, Obama and the Bushes, who also fought wars against Arabs weren't too fond of Muslims either.

No, the reason that Jefferson had a copy of the Koran and read it was “know thy enemy”, in this case the Barbary pirates. Opposition research, not enlightenment.
Strange that this “Christian” never celebrates Christmas in the White House, and he attends worship services, not even at Christmas and Easter. All we see is him and his family cavorting on the beach in Hawaii on yet another holiday vacation.
He is a Muslim.
