No heart? WE HAVE STANDARDS. Or at least some of us do. What said was so inexplicably awkward and completely idiotic that there is NO coming back. Nobody forced him into that answer, he did it all on his own, and you can be very sure that this won’t be the last such gaffe from this guy. He needs to go, and he needs to go now.
It's unfortunate, but when something this reprehensible is uttered, it's the hook.
Leftists never apologize, never give in, and they never tear down their own people in power no matter how many mistakes they make.
Yes they do, but it wouldn't matter if they didn't. We are an honorable party. When you say frog-shit, you dance, in our party.
What he said was flat out stupid, not even misconstrued, it was wrong, period.
He scored a perfect 10 from the lower platform, and dove HIMSELF under that bus.
This thing will fester until the elections, nothing good will come of this if he stays in the race.
Seems to me that there are quite a few conservatives, including Freepers, with no heart at all. Resisting the tyranny of political correctness is hard, and they are just looking for an excuse to enter the warm embrace of submission. Oh, a Republican said something that the media can misconstrue? That's never happened before! Let's take this opportunity to be every bit as petty and irrational as the lefties so that we can look around at our leftist masters and say "See? I'm cool too!"Thank you! When I originally read the complaint against Akin, I kept reading to find the "horror" or it all, and then realized it wasn't much of anything. The left took it and ran with it (they don't need much), and the right helped them carry the ball. Pathetic! It's never easy to stand up for the unborn (people stumble with words), because so many have killed their own or know someone close who did.
“If conservatives are not only willing to throw him under the bus, but seem to take a certain amount of glee in doing it, then we are already lost.”
He threw himself under the bus. Frankly, I’m just not interested in defending people for being stupid.
Todd Akin is one of about 50 million American adults who I would feel comfortable with holding that senate seat. The key thing being that they actually have to win that senate seat. If we need another conservative to step in because Mr. Akin can’t keep his foot out of his mouth, so be it. Just because the Democrats can send a Biden to DC for decades doesn’t mean that we should try to emulate them. The media treats us unfairly, sure, but that means we have to avoid saying stupid things. If you can’t manage that, you can’t represent us.
It was not “politically incorrect” - it was outrageous and nonsensical. This is not defensible and the Dems can use it not only to define the campaign in Missouri, but nationwide. He threw himself under the bus. No one forced him to say - the words are not being twisted. He may regret having said it, and that may be sincere, but it doesn’t change the irreversible political consequences of what has happened.
You seem to e confused about many things. Your use of the "macaca controversy" underlines this. In the 2006 Virginai U.S. Sentate election, George Allen called a guy a "macaca". He was actually leading in the race. No one "threw him under the bus". Allen stayed in the race. Guess what happened next? HE LOST. Just winning that one race could have stopped Obamacare.
The comments made by Akin, with the left in the process of ramping up a campaign depicting the GOP's "War on Women" could not have been more ill-timed. They were so ignorant I imagine even Republicans in Missouri are questioning whether to vote for him. Losing the Mo. seat will probably prevent any chance of repealing Obamacare.
Your other area of confusion is that you seem to be unaware of the double standard in American politics. The left gets away with it because they own the media. Their peccadilloes are swept under the rug while GOP ones are exaggerated and distorted. It's not fair. It just is.
