Stunning new footage of six police officers gunning down a Michigan man in an intense, five-second burst of 46 shots was made public Friday, setting off fierce reaction from members of a community still grappling with the incident.

"I'm stunned that six human beings would stand in front of one human being and fire 46 shots," victim Milton Hall’s mother, Jewel, told CNN.

Sure they squeezed off 46 rounds...

Given some LEO’s inability to hit the broad side of a barn..

How many of them hit their intended target?....

Note the recent stories about the purchasing of thousands of rounds for “practice” purposes. I practice too but NOT with hallow points.....They are for killing. Signs of coming times?

Seems like there could be a better way to subdue a knife wielding suspect and all those cops around. Why not fire some sort of netting around him and then run it around in a circle to wrap him all up. Seems a bit excessive gunning him down like that surrounded by multiple police.

All the alternate methods carry with them the risk of the cops getting cut, or otherwise injured. Cops these days (with the concurrence of their departments) are simply not willing to risk injury to themselves in order to take somebody alive.

If you present a threat of injury, they will simply kill you. And if they are going to shoot you, a dead suspect creates fewer long-term issues than a crippled one.

Would be neat if some inventer created a laser perimeter-designator. A laser spins in some fashion to actually indicate, on the ground, a given perimeter.>>>>>>>>>

It all started at the Alamo with Colonel William Travis, and a line in the sand!

There is money to be made here!

[...one less likely to offend public sensibilities.”

Maybe if the guy had been shot 46 times in the knee? There was no imminent threat here to justify what was done. Period.

Proper training and a little patience would have gone a long way here. If not, then bust out the taser and the mace for crying out loud.

These scum with badges are murderers and should suffer a murderer’s fate.

SHOULD a free people stand up to murdering police, or should we go quietly into death?”

All that the victim had to do was to simply obey the police instructions to put the knife down. I sure as hell would!

Now, with that in mind I would stand up without hesitation to the Obama civil army that the Communist-in-Chief wants to make to control the citizens of America.

You have to wonder why they quit firing? Here in Florida they fire until they run out of ammo!

7.67 rounds on target per police shooter in less than five seconds.

This is what I posted in another reply:

“There are too many armchair quarterbacks on this thread for me. People have the luxury of watching the video 10 times making judgement calls when the police had literally seconds to make their decisions. I am not a police supporter in abuse cases, but as I’ve said 100 times, police are not obligated to get their asses beat, get shot, or get stabbed as a condition of their employment. If you decide to use force against a police officer you should expect overwhelming force in return. That’s just how it works.”

Some posters were even questioning why a taser wasn’t used. These people need to do some serious research on street survival because they don’t know as much as they think they do.

When did they start making commercial charged-particle laser stun guns? Please let me know who makes them so I may purchase one, I’ve always wanted a laser weapon.

As for the Tazers, they are less-lethal, not non-lethal, and I’ve been careful to make that distinction where appropriate. But again, when you take the nightsticks away from cops, when you take the beanbag rounds away and you issue Tazers then take them away, the only other option is what you see here - shooting the person dead.

Your last paragraph is indicative of a training problem, not an inherent problem of the weapon system.

Tazers were probably not available to these officers as there was a Tazing death earlier this year (just a couple of months ago) in that jurisdiction. SOP for many departments after such a thing happens is to suspend use of the Tazer until reviews can be completed.

So no Tazers.

so, next, take away their guns.

Think that will work?

Training problem ~ yup! But you know we hear about a new case of this several times a year, and you’d think even cops would catch on that when somebody is preternaturally UNCONSCIOUS and not moving, that they are already down!

Nope. Just ask the Brits how well that’s worked. Now they quietly have roving vans full of SWAT teams replete with full-auto submachine guns to try to back up the ‘unarmed’ officers (who are often concealing a pistol in many areas to preserve the unarmed fiction).

The Brits have had their share of problems with their overzealous ‘Armed Response Teams’ going way overboard too - and more regularly than here.

Without proper training, and given the truly weird effects of many street drugs, plus being amped on adrenaline themselves? Nope. Few people would.

That’s why proper training and regular refreshers are so very important. Yet a lot of departments and cities refuse to spring for it, then wonder why incidents of the type you mention happen.

Well, I kinda of sort of agree with you. Its always easier to Monday morning quarterback and any investigation of this incident has to insole putting oneself in the position of the cops who were there and had to make a call. Its not like they had time to coordinate their response.

But I have just seen too many cases of the Blue Wall of Silence protecting cops from fair investigations to feel comfortable with a police investigation of a police matter. And I am sort of disappointed that so many cops and a service dog were unable to subdue a crazy old man with a knife without pumping so many shots into his butt.

Again, if the cops involved were homeboys and not white-bread from the suburbs things might have been perceived a little differently by the community there.
