Weve finally been vindicated: Members of Generation X have a representative who is anything but a slacker.
GOP Congressman Paul Ryanthe tireless, wonky, 42-year-old workout freakhas made history by becoming the first member of our generation to join a presidential ticket. It should come as a surprise to no one that his calling card is reforming entitlements.
We hear incessantly about how members of todays screwed generation face the prospect of less prosperous lives than those lived by their parents. But the maiden generation to stare down that gloomy prognosis was Generation X, the tiny slice of America born between about 1965 and 1980. (Ryan was born in 1970.) We were the first generation to be told we would never get Social Security or Medicare even though we would be forced to pay into these programs.
When many X-ers graduated from college, stocking shelves at the Gap was considered a career choice, as jobs were few and far between amidst a major economic downturn. I wont bore you with the horror show of the low-paying and miserable jobs I had for the first three years after college.
Enter Ryan. While Democrats attack his Medicare plan as radical and portray him as pushing granny off the cliff, young people dont seem to be buying this caricature. Or maybe radical is what they want.

“Sweet deal” is 1 in 4 adults under 30 living mom & pop, junior:)
So was Palin for that matter.
Point taken. :)
I also hear your point on Romney. He still has a lot of convincing to do for conservatives. I fear his establishment advisers are now saying, “Feel free to run back to the left now, Ryan has secured those hicks on the right for us.” Ryan could be a step in the right direction, or a prelude to a colossal mistake.
I cracked up at her “logic” the other day on Special Report. Her argument about Ryan’s plan was “those under 55 will be old one day and will be affected.” Somewhere between being told those people would have a choice before they got old and what they were facing right now went right above her head. It amazes me how the left can rationalize anything they don’t agree with.
Want to focus taxpayers in general on how much the gov't is taking from them?
Do away with withholding.
Give everyone their gross earnings in their paycheck.
Make everyone write checks to the gov't at the end of the month.
Make sure there are one each for income tax, social security, and medicare.
See how long people put up with big government after that.
If I’m wrong, and Romney happens to govern in a conservative fashion, and rollback Obamacare etc, then I’ll happily admit that I was off.
But, I don’t think I’m wrong. And I can see progressives within the party stabbing Ryan in the back if they lose. If this ticket loses, do you think that Ryan is going to pull off a Nixon?
No, and that’s the problem. Sure, its great that they have a conservative at VP - but it’s a position with absolutely zero power, except to act as a scapegoat.
Do you really want Ryan’s prospects in 2016 to be the same as Palin’s in 2012? I don’t. I’d much rather Romney chose someone like Pawlenty.
When you compare the size of the Baby Boom generation to the size of the Gen X generation, and the fact those entitlements will be ensured....I’d say sweet deal in comparison to possibly paying in and getting nothing...though I guess it’s like saying antifreeze tastes sweeter than motor oil.
As a long time conservative who's voted in every possible way for smaller less intrusive government the generalization kinda irritates me. Its counter productive.

Thank you all for your prayers and keep it up. Its working.<<<
