If one of Mitt Romney's goals in choosing a running mate was to mine the same mother lode of conservative excitement that John McCain tapped by picking Sarah Palin four years ago, there's one additional dilemma for Romney to address: Palin is still around.
A day after Romney unveiled House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan as his vice-presidential pick, Palin suggested in a statement posted by her Fox News colleague Greta Van Susteren that she would not speak at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa.
Though she has faded from her once commanding perch on the national political scene, Palins role in the Republican Party heading into the campaigns final stretch remains a consequential matter for the Romney team to address.
The former Alaska governor has demonstrated a continued ability to wield significant influence, particularly in Senate and House primary races, but her penchant for doing things her own way has left the lingering possibility that she could either boost the standard-bearer or become a thorn in his side.
For this reason, it was notable when she initially offered only a lukewarm reaction to Romneys selection of Ryan.
... two Republican sources with knowledge of discussions between the Palin and Romney camps told RCP that Palin would not attend the convention after not receiving an invitation to speak in prime time.

I was disappointed at first but I agree with you after I thought it through.
There is the money shot. It is IMPERATIVE we win both houses, including ousting as many RINO incumbents as we can muster.
After having my butt handed to me in the primary's 3 times, I was going to wait and see. I thought I would not know what I was going to do prior to election day......until Romney shocked the cr@p out of me and chose Ryan.
If Ryan can't shove Romney to the right (I believe he has a good shot), then both houses will. If we have Ryan AND both houses we can most CERTAINLY shove Romney to the right.
He may not like it but tough noogies.
As Rush said "there is one of US on the ticket". When Palin ran in 2008, there wasn't really an US yet...we were just establishing ourselves.
2010 was a swift kick in the jack-a$$....and we were pretty new. We have now had an additional 2 years to "hone".
As you might recall, every candidate and talking head said exactly the same thing. I figured then this election was a hoax.
She most certainly did not. She said you could see Russia from a part of land in Alaska (not verbatim).
Which by the way, while watching State Troopers in Alaska, one episode was filmed from that island. THEY as well said, on a clear day you could see Russia.
I guess you missed the interview where Romney said he would be in charge and he has his own budget posted on his web page.
You're confusing Saturday Night Live with reality.
You mean all that "baggage" she brought with her to kick jack-a$$ butt in 2010?
"a continued ability to wield significant influence, particularly in Senate and House primary races,"
Is THAT the "baggage" you're speaking of?
Itsahoot responses:I guess you missed the interview where Romney said he would be in charge and he has his own budget posted on his web page.
MNJohnnie, based on Romney's verifiable history of flip-flops, why would you believe anything he says? Notice that he couldn't seem to stay on point for even 24 hours.
A political strategy question here: Why when Romney is claimed to be such an economic guru does he bring on another economic specialist to the ticket? Particularly, one whose political philosophy is so far from Romney's?
Sarah will be out in the country doing the important work of helping elect more conservative members of Congress, and they WILL remember her help along the way.
First off, Sarah NEVER SAID she could see Russia from her house. THAT was said during the Saturday Night Live routine by the actress PLAYING Sarah.
What Sarah actually said was that she was WELL aware of the importance of Foreign Policy, because she could see Russia from her STATE, which is absolutely TRUE. As Governor, she was in charge of the National Guard contingency in her state, which would constitute the first respone to any incursion by the Russians, which incidentally has happened a couple of times, in recent years.
It's interesting that any other politician can have a crappy interview, and it's forgotten in a week or two, but this charge is still dragged out against Sarah ALL THE TIME! It's getting VERY old!
I bet he hears that all the time.
“So are you voting for Obama?”
Nope I won’t chose the lesser evil why would I choose the greater evil. As far as I am concerned the moochers, looters, invaders, homosexuals, and their supporters have won the battle for the country. It belongs to them now.
4 more years of the evil Kenyan is something that America does not need.
Here is Sarah being interviewed on Fox:
Gov. Sarah Palin appeared with Shannon Bream Aug. 12, 2012
Palin needs to disappear and allow Romney/Ryan to move forward without her baggage from 2008.

I won’t be giving up on my country quite as easily as you. Think of the hundreds of thousands of patriots that have given the ultimate sacrifice for this country and buck up! We have a long fight ahead of us and we will have hardships, but we will win.
