Pipe manufacturer TMK IPSCO will move its corporate headquarters from Illinois to Houston to increase its exposure to the oil and natural gas market, the company has announced.
Currently based in Downers Grove, Ill., TMK IPSCO said it will move most of its headquarters offices to the company’s new research and development center on Houston’s northwest side. The company expects to complete the Houston move by the summer of 2013 and build a new headquarters in the city within the next two years.
“Houston is the hub of the global oil and gas industry. It’s important for the company to be positioned there in order to facilitate relationships with key customers, attract and retain energy-industry talent and demonstrate our commitment to the industry,” said TMK IPSCO Chairman Piotr Galitzine, in a written statement. “Most importantly, this transition will enable us to be a better, more efficient and more service oriented company.”
The company is the U.S. arm of Russia’s largest steel pipe maker, TMK, which counts Exxon Mobil, Shell and other major oil producers among its customers. It manufacturers drill pipe, well casing and other products for the oil and gas industry.
TMK IPSCO has 11 facilities in the United States. In addition to its research and development office on Houston Oaks Drive, the company has three manufacturing plants in Texas.
Going South to be in better climes......and better taxes.......and nicer people.............

Getting closer to your customer is a good strategy but getting away from the confiscatory Peoples Social Republic of Illinois is a nice side benefit.
I know you're referring to the economic and business environment in a conservative region like Texas, not the weather. ;)

Houston has pretty good weather overall, except for the occasional hurricane. I live in the Panhandle of Florida, just up the beach..............Just ask Allegra!.............
I’m in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. Same weather here as there and in New Orleans, Mobile, Pensacola and Panama City. Hot and muggy is a state of mind. Yeah, the humidity is sometimes so thick your glasses fog up every time you walk outside, but that’s just in the summer. Mild winters and moderate climate by the Gulf of Mexico is great as compared to Illinois. I can avoid getting my car stuck in sand. Not as easy in snow...........
Excuse me, but what's the "average Illinois voter"? Except for three geographical areas in our state, Chicago, Champaign-Urbana and the East St. Louis area, we are mainly conservative and vote that way. So, you're really painting with a broad brush. Illinois politics is so overly influenced by Chicago (including many GOP candidates) we have little chance to overcome their crap.

Sure can't, but hey ... Gov. Pat Quinn (D. IL) doesn't understand the Laffer curve anyway. When questioned about it recently, he said "What's the Laffer curve?"
