A Russian nuclear-powered attack submarine armed with long-range cruise missiles operated undetected in the Gulf of Mexico for several weeks and its travel in strategic U.S. waters was only confirmed after it left the region, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.
It is only the second time since 2009 that a Russian attack submarine has patrolled so close to U.S. shores.
The stealth underwater incursion in the Gulf took place at the same time Russian strategic bombers made incursions into restricted U.S. airspace near Alaska and California in June and July, and highlights a growing military assertiveness by Moscow.
The submarine patrol also exposed what U.S. officials said were deficiencies in U.S. anti-submarine warfare capabilitiesforces that are facing cuts under the Obama administrations plan to reduce defense spending by $487 billion over the next 10 years.

Who cares about his lack of proper table etiquette when the SOB is selling us out to the Russians.
Except for K-172, when it took up a firing position off Israel to launch its eight SS-N-3 nuclear missiles in the event the Israelis occupied or nuked Damascus.
It was after that that the Israelis adopted the reccomendations of Project Daniel around 2003.
Thanks for collecting and posting all those good links.
Cool, submarine sailed in the Gulf and a bear defecated in a wood.
Submarines are doing it all the time, that is why they are made. I don’t think it is a big deal if one wasn’t tracked because detection abilities of SOSUS are great but not absolute for sure. Submarine is a pretty tiny thing in comparison to Atlantic.
bump
I bet that Russian sub had centerfold pin-ups taped to the head doors.
