A new poll out from the Washington Post and ABC News -- conducted half before the Ryan announcement and half afterward -- found that positive views of the now-VP candidate jumped this weekend following his addition to the GOP ticket. Via The Fix:
In Wednesday through Friday interviews, fully 45 percent of Americans expressed no opinion of Ryan, dropping to 30 percent on Saturday and Sunday. The increasing familiarity all went to the positive side of the ledger, giving Ryan an initial advantage in the sprint to define his candidacy.
Overall, in interviews after his selection, 38 percent of all Americans express favorable views of Ryan, 33 percent negative ones. (Before the the announcement, Ryan was somewhat underwater, scoring 23 percent favorable, 32 unfavorable.) The most recent national numbers on Vice President Joe Biden are from a July Pew Research Center poll showing a split decision, 40 percent favorable, 37 percent unfavorable.
One of the largest movements on Ryans favorability numbers was the 21-point jump among conservative Republicans, but the initial movement was positive among independents as well, doubling from 19 to 39 percent. The shift among Democrats was similar in both a positive (up 10 percentage points on favorability) and negative direction (up eight on unfavorability).
As we've noted here before, the race to define Ryan in the next few weeks is one that both campaigns are engaging in. It's not surprising that Ryan's favorability jumped following the announcement, when many voters around the country heard about him for the first time -- the real question is what happens to those numbers now that both Obama and Romney are focusing so heavily on defining him.

“The more people get a chance to hear him explain through the budget proposals and their effect on Medicare, the more theyll understand and come to realize he isnt the boogeyman they feared.”
I suspect you are right which is why the liberal media won’t televise his articulate explanations, at least until the messiah’s camp has their crack at defining Ryan first.
I have great trepidation that 40% of my fellow citizens have a favorable opinion of Joe Biden. Is it due to his socialistic worldview, his incredible intellect, or the fact that he excels in the field of plagiarism?
The public has been exposed to nothing but empty slogans from Obama and silence from Romney, before they saw the videos of Ryan taking Dear Reader apart on heath care and the budget.
Watch out, Paul. Remember what they did to Sarah.
Frum had a CNN article in it that basically said it’s a terrible pick. He made some decent points, but I still think he can pull it out and counter the negativity.
If anybody can do it, Ryan can.
What more can we ask, the facts are on the side of Conservative solutions not Socialist solutions.
The more he tears the mask off the Charlatan in Chief currently occupying the Peoples House...
You're giving the marxists of the msm too much credit. They look for sound bites that can fit on a bumper sticker for the millions of their lemmings that can't think for themselves.
I don't see them giving Ryan much time to explain his plans. It'll be, "Ok, we'll come back to that, Paul, but right now, could you explain how you feel about the narrative that your draconian medicare cuts will, in essence, be like throwing grandma off a cliff?" Then, with about 10 seconds left in the interview, "Well, what do you know? We're out of time. Sorry, Paul, we'll have to have you back soon.".
Young, smarter than every democrat combined and then some, wonderful, beautiful family, great resume’, Catholic, honest, and articulate. Geeeez, what’s not to like? The democrats are scared to death of him.
Here, Here... agree.
“It ain’t popular to give Romney credit for anything on this forum, but let’s give him credit for a very smart pick here.”
A good manager adapts to the priorities called for by the situation at hand.
The nation’s biggest problem is economy/federal budget related.
Some others who ran in the primary have budget cred; Perry, Cain.
Some others who were considered for VP have budget cred; Daniels, Portman.
But overall Ryan is the most effective speaker on the range of economic and budget related topics, and comes across with enthusiasm, charisma, and smiles.
Excellent decision from the top, by he who can’t be named.
Interesting: UK bookmakers Ladbrokes offer very different odds: currently 4/11 Obama (=73%) & 2/1 Romney (=33%). Despite their 6% profit margin here, can’t help feeling there’s some value in one of those prices! Though, of course, if you were on Obama at 57 with Intrade, and Romney at 33 with Ladbrokes, you’d be guaranteed a profit whatever the outcome...
he will run for President in 2016 after Romney finishes..
lets give him some exposure and experience as VP..he has a great future ahead..
Class, Character, honor, respect, dignity are about to return to the White House....YEA

Barf! Hope you never got an NEA grant.

Ads, ads, ads. Live interviews that can’t be cut. Debate. Online video resources for those curious. Yes, the MSM has a good grip on what gets out but their fingers are getting sweaty and starting to slip.
