A new poll out from the Washington Post and ABC News -- conducted half before the Ryan announcement and half afterward -- found that positive views of the now-VP candidate jumped this weekend following his addition to the GOP ticket. Via The Fix:
In Wednesday through Friday interviews, fully 45 percent of Americans expressed no opinion of Ryan, dropping to 30 percent on Saturday and Sunday. The increasing familiarity all went to the positive side of the ledger, giving Ryan an initial advantage in the sprint to define his candidacy.
Overall, in interviews after his selection, 38 percent of all Americans express favorable views of Ryan, 33 percent negative ones. (Before the the announcement, Ryan was somewhat underwater, scoring 23 percent favorable, 32 unfavorable.) The most recent national numbers on Vice President Joe Biden are from a July Pew Research Center poll showing a split decision, 40 percent favorable, 37 percent unfavorable.
One of the largest movements on Ryans favorability numbers was the 21-point jump among conservative Republicans, but the initial movement was positive among independents as well, doubling from 19 to 39 percent. The shift among Democrats was similar in both a positive (up 10 percentage points on favorability) and negative direction (up eight on unfavorability).
As we've noted here before, the race to define Ryan in the next few weeks is one that both campaigns are engaging in. It's not surprising that Ryan's favorability jumped following the announcement, when many voters around the country heard about him for the first time -- the real question is what happens to those numbers now that both Obama and Romney are focusing so heavily on defining him.

I have felt for a few years that Ryan is this nation’s greatest hope. He can articulate conservative solutions AND take on the media leftists better than anyone else.
We have a lot of good ones right now, but he has it in his blood, and is extremely well prepared.
Not surprising. Conservatism wins. I wish he had run for President.

It ain't popular to give Romney credit for anything on this forum, but let's give him credit for a very smart pick here.
A little to wet behind the ears to run for President. If he were black that wouldn’t matter, of course. When you think about how 0bama ran for president since the day he became a Senator, you really have to wonder who was backing him.. And nudging him forward into the White House. If 0bama were white people would’ve laughed at his record as a ‘community organizer’ prior to becoming a Senator. It IS laughable.
Not for me. I'd have been all-in for Ryan in a heartbeat if he had declared.
That said, the problem with the Republican ticket isn’t the VP. It’s the nominee.
The producers of Saturday Night Live doubling-down on efforts to find a cast member who can impersonate him...
If Ryan could give his ecomonic plan a serious shot of steroids we might be able to pull out of the worst of this mess in several years.
As it is his plan takes 30 years?
As it is now there is no plan to seriously alter the course we are on.
We likely never be truely free people until, and unless, they repeal the 16th ammendment.
Not to mention stop alls these backdoor ways of twarting the USC.
While I think Ryan is a positive move in the right direction. His plan, if is even become part of romeny’s plan, fall way short of what is needed.
Like I have said on various occassions,
Good Luck America!
They will bring in ultra-marxist Matthew Morrison of Glee to guest and play Ryan.
I can’t help but think, actually more like dream, they have a few tricks up their sleeves.
In a good way.
Like, get in first and then start cutting and slashing and disbanning overreaching Departments and doing away with Czars and reversing Otard’s EOs and make a serious attempt at repealing, and replacing, the 16th A.
If anyone could it would be Ryan and that whacky Paul and Son.
Had the pleasure of meeting him in Norfolk on Saturday. He’s an amazingly “regular guy,” who interacts very comfortably with all those around him. Romney — and I know he has his detractors here in FR — made a great choice in Ryan. The more people get a chance to hear him explain through the budget proposals and their effect on Medicare, the more they’ll understand and come to realize he isn’t the boogeyman they feared.
I have no doubt they are. The dems were making a lot of noise about Ryan being "their running mate of choice" in an attempt to ward Romney off from picking him up. I'm very happy he called their bluff. Now they're stuck because they know Ryan's intellect is far superior to their own.
Intrade odds are now 57 Obama 42 Romney

Intrade also had the mandate going down by 75% w obamacare
I’ve enjoyed listening to him at every opportunity the last couple of years. A+ selection.
“The more people get a chance to hear him explain through the budget proposals and their effect on Medicare, the more theyll understand and come to realize he isnt the boogeyman they feared.”
I suspect you are right which is why the liberal media won’t televise his articulate explanations, at least until the messiah’s camp has their crack at defining Ryan first.
