No matter what, Republicans are now in the age of Ryan. if Romney wins, Ryan is the next vice president of the United States. If Romney loses, Ryan is the next leader of the Republican Party.

Ryan is a good choice, I wish he were the top of the ticket, but he is not.
People do change, however with Romney he denies his past and says he has always been a conservative.
You make some good points.
I’m convinced Californians are suicidal. I lived there for a long time (Northern CA) and I’ve never seen a crazier, more unrealistic bunch of leftists in my life (even the “soccer moms”) and I honestly don’t know what it would take to get them to wake up.
Well, yes and no. Until she declined to run for President, Palin really was the effective leader of the GOP, at least from the point of view of both the rank-and-file and the White House: she resigned as Governor of Alaska to become just a private citizen, but the Obama White House rushed around responding to her every tweet, every Facebook post, as if she was actually the leader of the opposition. To use the British political meaning of "shadow" she was functioning as shadow POTUS.
Ryan would be left in the same position, but with years of direct Washington experience. Of course, we hope this is a pointless hypothetical, and he'll be chairing the Senate (when he wants to) and going to cabinet meetings the next four to eight years.
>>I think the Romney hatred is based on being 20% anti-Romney and 80% anti-Mormon.<<
Maybe, but I suspect about half of it is just people refusing to quit until the last gasp, i.e., when Romney is actually nominated at the convention. Until then, they think, there’s a chance...
And I don’t have any trouble with that. I really, really didn’t want Romney to be the GOP candidate, but hey, he’s won it. I quit worrying about how to beat him about the time he won the Wisconsin primary. At that point, l went from trying to beat him to supporting him.
Others just haven’t given up yet. If they don’t give up even after he’s nominated at the convention, then, yes, they’re effectively Obama supporters whether they see that or not.
I’m just thankful that the Tea Party has been disciplined enough to remain within the GOP and attempt to change it from within, rather than attack it from the outside, a la Ross Perot, because that would have guaranteed four more years of Obama.
This is something that I’ve begun to suspect about conservatives here who are insisting on standing on ‘principles’. They live in a state that will heavily favor one candidate or another and their protest ‘non-vote’ won’t make a difference in the long run.
But people who live in swing states shouldn’t be discouraged from pushing back against Obama. If enough people in those areas are convinced by the tantrums being thrown by ‘principled conservatives’, we will get another Obama term and we may not have anything left to fight FOR in four years.
You are right. Ryan is the best choice Romney could have made for our country, even if not for his campaign. This is a point more people should ponder. McCain talked about America First. Romney just did it.
I mostly agree.
For the majority of my life I have lived in Santa Barbara......really nice here.
I have lived in Santa Cruz - crazy!!!!!!!
And a variety of other coastal towns, if it weren’t for the weather and work we might be somewhere else.
You may have a point there.
I am not however throwing a tantrum, I am just not voting for a liberal.
Ryan will be in a good position to slip a mickey in the Bishop’s soup. Just sayin.
Thank God your vote means nothing! If you were in a swing state, you’d be worth no more than a Democrat!
Why thank you for your comment that I am not worth anything, it just brings tears to my eyes.
A least I am not supporting a liberal.
Everybody deserves forgiveness for past sins if they ask for it. Mitt Romney has made mistakes, I forgive him. At least I’m not supporting a Saul Alinsky communist like you.
Oh jb, I grow weary of your juvenile behavior of name calling and accusations.
Either prove I support Obama (by showing a reply where I said I did), I have said I do not vote for liberals which includes Obama or stfu.
You are not voting for the only reasonable alternative to Obama, then you are support Obama. Proven.
Proven where in alter world?
Never fear your pretty little head, I live in California so I can vote for who I want, its no skin off your nose.
Explains every thing perfectly. California, the land of fruits and nuts. You people destroyed your state and now you’re trying to spread your commie agenda to the rest of the nation.
No thanks.
You people?
Truly you are devoid of reason and thought.
Do you only speak in sound bites and talking points?
Are you capable ...... Sorry even trying to ask that question make me laugh.
Toot a loo
Yes YOU PEOPLE. Californians. You choose to live in that state, then you are one of the same!
You know as much about California as you do about articulation of reasoned thought.
