Here's hoping you have better luck in your lifetime.
I was young and pretty much busy providing for the family until Reagan ran of the presidency in 1980. After Carter, it became real clear how much a guy could screw is in one term. I didn’t tune out after that.
I had always voted for our Republican nominee, but I never saw them as the likes of what we have today. McCain? Romney? Whew.
Reagan were my two favorite votes. Bob Dull in 1996, was my least favorite. I swore off warm buckets of horse sweat after that. I did have a relapse in 2004. NEVER AGAIN!
My rule of thumb is this. If I wouldn’t vote for a guy if he had a (D) after his name, I won’t vote for them.
I wasn’t around in 1964, as far as voting. I wasn’t old enough to vote until 1969. I remember my father talking to my grandfather about Goldwater, and he was pretty jazzed up over him. I have had quite a bit of respect for Goldwater, but then I saw him pull some rather strange things in his elder years.
Thanks for your post. I know I already responded, but I hadn’t commented on the Goldwater portion of it, and I wanted to.
