Woman laughs, accidentally swallows knife
Los Angeles Times ^ | August 3, 2012 | Rosie Mestel

"Unexpected Swallowing of a Knife" -- that's a grabbier title than most ones you see in medical journals.

The short item, a clinical image in this week's New England Journal of Medicine, explains that a 30-year-old woman with a history of bulimia had been bragging to friends that she no longer had a gag reflex. She put the knife into her mouth and then laughed -- at which point she swallowed the knife.

I understand (in a philosophical way, not from experience) your position.

Awww...sometimes, there are bright things even on the darkest of days.

There is a car lot called NV Paralyzed Veterans, and cars are donated, fixed up and then sold. I am going to check them out this week if I feel up to it.

The only thing is, they want cash for all deals, so I will have to talk like a Dutch uncle to see if someone will front the cost and allow me to make payments. I just need to get an idea of what is available. It’s encouraging, though!

We donate to Paralyzed Veterans sometimes. If you find something, talk to me about the precise cost. You might find a Purple Thing ... it’s been very reliable, and you’d fit in one much more easily than Tom does.

Linda Parry is a terrific person, and I’m sure Fred was too, when he was himself, based on how relaxed he is in his current state ... like my father. Some people are very hostile with Alzheimer’s, and some are mellowed out.

I will look for a small truck. The vehicles are all worked on and road worthy, and the church is willing to give me $400 (the reimbursement for the truck the mechanic broke) as a down, and the rest is up to me.

Of course, I understand the need for up-front money for the sale, and I don’t mind helping a worthy cause. I even contribute to Wounded Warriors. But I will tell you what I find. I have decided not to go over $2000, because it will take me over a year to pay it back.

I just can’t pack those heavy groceries home, and ride the buses to doctor appointments. All of it stresses me out.

As soon as I got a firm answer from the church members, I began to look for something. There is a maintenance man here who has a ‘93 Isuzu Trooper that looks like ME! He wants $2300 for it, but is not in a hurry to sell. I’m sure if he had the cash, he would. He takes care of his vehicles, and I trust him, but we are not at the negotiation stage, yet.

So far, I’m just gathering data.
Wish me luck.

Some of the people here (most?) are newly disabled (arthritis, heart diease, etc.) and are angry with how their bodies have let them down. I understand that.

Others have been ailing for years, and are a little more relaxed about life and death, but some in both categories have been alone for so long that they become meddlesome, especially those who have no family or their families are estranged, for whatever reason.

They seem to see everyone they come in contact with as a potential “family member” who needs guidance. But they don’t stop there. So I have learned to keep my distance.

Friendly, but not available for gossip. I hear lots of it about other people, but it doesn’t go beyond me.

WHOA! Those look positively deadly!"

My understanding is that the Indian army either has developed, or has plans to develop a chemical weapon with them. No, really.

World's hottest chile.

When I had all the channels I wanted, I used to like to watch BBCA with its Gordon Ramsay segments. There was one where he went to India and there was a contest for who could eat the hottest pepper.

I’m sure this pepper was a contender. I don’t recall the name of it, but I DO recall that a woman not only ate a LOT of them, but also rubbed them in her eyes. She won. *shudder*

I can readily believe chemical weapons! LOL!

We have a guy on the NC board who is way into Isuzu Troopers, but I understand it’s getting harder to run one because the parts aren’t made any more. Look for something you can get the parts for!

Let us know what you find, and I’m sure I can help. Maybe Anoreth can help, too. She’s not contributing for the new church property, after all ;-).

Sorry...

I welcome input about vehicles. I will make it a point to go to the car lot this week. It opens at 0930, so I will have time to get there and check out the merchandise. If I am there when they open, I can tell them my history of military service as a wife, mother and grandmom. Maybe the rules will be bent. Or not.

It’s tough deciding what to do with the “accepted-MSM version of how to deal with health problem.

It’s all dis-ease isn’t it?

If so, I myself am doomed. *smirk*

I will NEVER accept the MSM version of how to deal with my health. They have no clue as to what my body needs, and I will not allow them to tell me how to live. I will continue to invest in herbal remedies. Period.

PS: I’m going to be a Great-Gramma in April!

If you don’t give your neighbors anything new to talk about, they will talk about what they don’t know. Such details such as how you cut your sandwiches. It can be the latest heart scuttlebutt. Triangle and rectangle are the heavy hitters with not cutting and trapezoids being scandalous.
