Liberals don't want to jinx it. It terrifies the right. And the press would prefer a nail-biter. But the fact is that finding Romney's path to victory is getting harder every day.
There's a secret lurking behind everything you're reading about the upcoming election, a secret that all political insiders knowâor shouldâbut few are talking about, most likely because it takes the drama out of the whole business. The secret is the electoral college, and the fact is that the more you look at it, the more you come to conclude that Mitt Romney has to draw an inside straight like you've never ever seen in a movie to win this thing. This is especially true now that it seems as if Pennsylvania isn't really up for grabs. Romney's paths to 270 are few.

You have NO RESPONSE....! You can’t defend the indefensible. I don’t blame you, If I were a democrat, Id be ashamed of that communist in the White House too.
You have NO trouble shooting your mouth off when it comes to republicans and their short comings but when it comes to that communist in the White House, you can’t even bring it upon urself to find one fault.
Your are a fraud.....and the reason you want resopnd is becaue you can’t. You know Obama is a communist, the democrat congress is made up mostly of communist, and you, like Obama, worship at the foot of your God, Karl Marx.
Everyone here is familiar with Romney’s background.
If the congress puts repeal of Obamacare on Romney’s desk, he will sign it. With Obama there is zero chance of that happening.
We’re going to win the abortion issue from the grassroots up, not from the top down. The issue is moving our direction independently of whoever happens to be president.
There was no way Romney was going appoint conservative judges in a blue state with a blue legislature.
The idea that wanting to see Romney beat Obama is a DU attitude is just silly. The very fact that you’re thinking this should be a red flag in your own mind that you’ve gotten off track somehow. Sometimes it’s good to sort of step outside yourself and cross-examine your owning thinking to make sure your perspective hasn’t gotten skewed. We’re all conservatives and we’re all struggling with what to do about this mess we’re in.
Doughty, If you recall, back during the election of 2000, I recommended that Al Gore be elected. I still think it was the best of the options we were facing. Gore was a once in a lifetime buffoon capable of displaying to the public how far out of balance our federal government along with the two political parties populating it at that time had become to mainstream America. Real change, led by true conservatives would be the net result.
This election does not afford us such an opportunity. We have NO choice, be it one forced upon us or not. Obama must be defeated or the cause itself is over and done with. This nation, as constituted, cannot survive his re-election.period.
I hate Romney and how the GOP establishment has manipulated the primaries time after time to ensure his type get the nomination. I told this forum many years ago that to get rid of the Democrats, we must first get rid of their bodyguards, the Republicans. In many ways this is still true. The problem this election cycle is that if we don't get rid of Obama, there might never be a chance to enact the changes we wish to enact. Socialism is FAILING right before everyone's eyes all over this nation as one city after another declares bankruptcy. There will be a response to this. Our time is coming. We can't afford to stop the clock now.
However, the GOPe wants 'the cherry on top' with the conservative vote as a seal of approval. They think that threatening people into voting through the specter of a second term is sufficient incitement when it is actually an insult.
It's no different than with the Democrats with Obama in 08. Many "middle to right" Democrats didn't want Obama yet they gave their vote anyway simply because they were, and had always been, Democrats.
They chose party over principles and now many of them regret their vote.
...but apparently you have overlooked the fact that democratic principles are employed in electing our representatives and senators or are you asserting that elections are not democratic.
You can't even get that right.
@There are democratic elements to our form of government, not democratic principles.
The rest of your reply...more fear mongering.
I dont care if we have your vote.We dont vote for liberals of either party.Got that?
Doughty One: “I’m not going to vote for Bush because he’s a putz, and I’m not going to vote for McCain because he’s terrible, why would I vote for this chameleon?”
Making statements such as the above, about President Bush is all we need to know about you...
Principled (ironic name, by the way),
You say that Romney’s critics should have worked harder to get “their” candidate in the primaries. Does that mean Romney embodies YOUR ideals? Are you telling conservatives to go pound sand, and that YOUR way, the moderate left/Romney way, is just the way it’s going to be?
“I and patriots like myself”
How patriotic is it to root for the reelection of Obama, when everyone knows he will destroy the country, so we’ll never be able to put it back together again.
Well, if open primaries are to blame for Romney, we are in turn to blame for allowing open primaries, or at least not calling for the political heads of those who allow them.
I just don’t see the point of wailing and gnashing our teeth with no other plan than “let it get so bad it implodes and only then will we exert our will on a suddenly supportive population”.
The libs aren’t going to just disappear if the economy collapses, they’ll still be around blaming us. What makes us think that the same folks who lined up for handouts before will have a change of heart and become conservatives?
“I call myself an ULTRA conservative and while Romney isn’t my IDEAL, he’s ALL WE HAVE BETWEEN US and TOTAL DESTRUCTION!!!!!! “
Well said. You are exactly right.
It’s time for people to take off their blinders and see the obvious that you stated.
There is no wailing and gnashing of teeth. The elite in each state are well fortified(MONEY).Therefore it is damn near impossible to get them out of power.I am talking of the northeast hear. The will is not there. In the south we would run them out of town on a rail.
You are most welcome.
It’s the “burn down the village to save it” syndrome...
They will be proud if they will succeed in helping Obama get a second term.
The millions that put him where he is at can vote for him and allow him to continue the destruction in their name. My head is cut off and my toe is more than stubbed with either in the Oval Office. I will not vote for ObamaRomneycare, abortion, destruction of marriage, liberal judges, higher taxes (even if disguised as mandatory fees and fewer deductions, or someone who has proven as negative or destructive as either candidate.
In 1980, our venom was not aimed at Reagan. Rather, it was aimed at George Bush, who for all of his liberal positions, was still to the right of Romney.
What an idiotic article. The Electoral College is not a secret and it does not help Democrat candidates. It overrepresents Republican voters and keeps Democrats from running up the score in California or New York.
So you think Romney would veto a bill to repeal Obamacare?
Romney will do what is politically expedient. He represents a final return to the politics we experienced before 2005.
Vetoing you own Congress’ signature bill is not politically expedient.
