The nationwide day of appreciation for Chick-fil-A and its ownerships outspoken defense of a traditional view of marriage was in full force at the chains stand-alone restaurant outside Valley View Mall in Roanoke at lunchtime today.
The restaurant was packed, with a line of people extending from the front counter, outside the doors and into the parking lot. The drive-through line, meanwhile, wrapped around the building and at one point extended back into Valley View Boulevard, with more than 30 carloads of people waiting to order. One city police officer was on hand to monitor the traffic situation.
In a July interview, Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy said he supported a traditional view of marriage, the biblical definition of the family unit. The Cathy family has never hid from its Southern Baptist views, closing its restaurants on Sundays.
But Cathy's statement has fired up gay rights groups, who are calling for a nationwide kiss-in campaign to take place Friday.
Meanwhile, Chick-fil-A supporters have answered emphatically. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has declared today Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, a day to have a meal at Chick-fil-A and stand behind the restaurant.
Former Roanoke mayor and current state Sen. Ralph Smith was on hand at the Valley View Chick-fil-A today, handing out small U.S. flags to patrons.

I missed that there was a poll, so I’m glad you posted that to me. Thank you.
Freepers..., get to work.
ABC channel 7 in Los Angeles just stated that Northridge, Hollywood, Redlands, and Laguna Nigel saw very heavy business today. Laguna is interesting since it has become very popular with the homosexual community. Many of them live down there.
I thought it was interesting to see how Hollywood went too. Most people think of the place as being very leftist. You wouldn’t know it today.
The place was swamped with business, and people were sitting in the restaurant outside seating section, facing the corner with the homosexual supporting protesters chanting “Chick-Fil-A, Chick-Fil-A, in their faces.”
One group of Blacks was having a great time. They just showed them on TV. One was a Black lady that was really funny. LOL
As I drove through the drive-through, there was a thirty-something woman with her kids in toe, ordering up.
Looks like the LGBT protest was very lucritive for Chick-Fil-A. I’m wondering if the CEO might make a few more ‘mistakes’ in upcoming weeks.
It’s a thought!
Show me an America billionaire and business that pledges the important stuff like opposing gun control, and promising to bring back good paying and taxpaying USA jobs from Asia and Mexico, and that promises to hire only Americans and I’ll pledge to support them too.
To be honest I’ve been in business and I always avoided alienating customers about my politics because it loses customers. This other stuff relatively speaking is not something I get all bent out of shape about. But I respect the opinions of those who do. Thanks for the heads-up.
How likely are you to eat at Chick-fil-A after the establishment announced its stance against same-sex marriage?

LOL- I bought the alarm clock for our camper! And pens, a portable speaker, PEZ dispensers and a beach towel.
I’m luring DH there tomorrow night, with the promise to hit Gander Mountain afterwards.
Thanks. I didn’t realize they had that.
