LONDON (Reuters) - A female Saudi fighter will take part in the Olympic judo competition after being allowed to wear an Islamic headscarf, or hijab, of a specific design, officials said on Monday.
Wojdan Ali Seraj Abdulrahim Shaherkani is one of only two Saudi women to travel to London after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) lobbied the conservative Islamic kingdom to end its refusal to send women to the Games.
But she had said she would only compete if she was allowed to wear the hijab, and judo officials refused, saying it would be dangerous.
A Saudi National Olympic Committee spokeswoman said the committee, the IOC and the International Judo Federation (IJF) had now agreed on an acceptable form for the headscarf.

[ Sorry but if your oppressive religion requires you to be covered head to toe then stay out of sports. I would refuse to compete against you. Imagine the uproar if your head dress gets accidentally pulled off. Idiots in your religion would want to cut my head off. ]
They should have the Olympics be like how they used to run them a long time ago in Greece, Nekkid!
This could be Lizzie Warren because she’ s Saudi Arabian......when it’s to her benefit.
[ Do they have a ninja competition? The hijab would be perfect for that. ]
I want to make a bumper sticker that has a picture of a ninja’s head and the caption: Only Ninja should look like this.
Do you think thats really a female in there? Looks like Robert Gibbs to me.

By golly, you are right. That IS Robert Gibbs!
That was terrible. :)
Good. All religions should be treated with mutual respect. If there is a problem with some muslims disrespecting other religions, this is a good example for them to follow. Lead by example. In the words of the old song, “...they will know we are Christians by out love...”.
My first thought was Uncle Fester.
I’ll be here all week. Don’t forget to try the roast beef.

Say that five ties fast....I can’t say it once....
I wonder if she still needs to have a male relative to escort her around....
I also wonder what rules will be relaxed if and when her special hijab gets ripped off her head....
As her opponent that’s what I go for first to throw her off her game....
Sarah Attar (the second girl) actually grew up in Escondido, California (north of San Diego) and is going to Pepperdine. She runs in tanks and shorts and dresses like any other Californian.
She’s just got dual US-Saudi citizenship b/c her dad is Saudi, and she was asked to compete for Saudi so they had a “legitimate” female athlete. It all happened very quickly.
Sarah’s been all over the local news, including that her family was told to have ALL pictures of her removed from the internet from her schools - all previous competition pictures (where she wasn’t covered) including ones where she really wasn’t even truly identifiable - as well as all biographical/family details. They (the family) aren’t sure why it needed to happen, and newer articles are now making it sound like it was their idea, but they made the requests and the schools all accommodated quickly. Of course they can’t as easily get other sources to remove them!
Sarah actually graduated from Escondido High School, the same school Amber DuBois (kidnapped and killed along with Chelsea King, of Poway) went to before her life was tragically cut short by John Gardener.
Anyway, despite what they’re trying to make it seem, Sarah is far from truly Saudi in any real sense of what the KSA would like to make it seem. She’s really a down to earth Californian who got a chance to run in the Olympics because her dad is from Saudi and that gave her enough ties herself to be asked to compete.
Cool! Thanks for the info. Glad to hear she’s got a future.
Hey... isn’t Pepperdine a CHRISTIAN school?
Thanks for the info!
Freeko cult!
There is a mosque on a side street in mid-town Houston very close to one of our high schools. Their attendance is huge and there no longer is parking available anywhere for blocks around when they are having a service. I completely forgot about the traffic situation and turned down the street last week. Came upon at least a dozen women who were leaving service attired in black from head to toe with only slit openings for their eyes. In spite of the fact that the temperatures were in the 90’s, I felt a very cold chill pass over me and thought perhaps I had entered the twilight zone.
I taught martial arts for twenty years. I taught many techniques using the collar of an opponents uniform or jacket against him. It would be wonderful to see a throw or a choke executed using the hijab against it’s wearer.
What a ridiculous farce.
