A semiautomatic assault rifle, anyone? How about a few thousand rounds of ammo? On July 20, those weapons of choice killed 12 innocents at the Century 16 Theatre in Aurora, Colo.
The shooter legally bought an AR-15 assault rifle, three other guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition, according to police. In America, acquiring a lethal assault rifle is almost as easy as picking up a buttered popcorn at the movies.
The communities of Aurora, Columbine, Virginia Tech, Northern Illinois University and Chicagos South and West sides know that.
The families of thousands of murdered and injured souls get it. All those left behind, forever transformed, see it.
Why dont our politicians?
The minute the grim news blasted out of Colorado, our leaders started scrambling, running away from the message seared into every lethal bullet these guns must go.

So, because this particular type of gun, which any rational person would admit is amoung the most Constitutionaly protected because of its suitablility for militia use, must be banned because they are extremely rarely used to commit murder.
The "progressives" are superbly adept at lying to themselves.
We private 2nd Amendment advocates, NRA, GOA, etal had better be ready to push back because this Aurora, CO incident and Scalia’s comments are going to precipitate the biggest, most extreme push by the left for gun/ammo control/confiscation that we’ve seen. We’ve got to fight back.
Automotive deaths: 33,000.
Nobody complains.
We must not forget, it is 13 lives. Didn’t 24 of Holder’s people kill each other in Chicago that day as well?
I suspect it was actually 24 killed "and wounded". I don't think the Chicago Civil War has gotten that intense. Yet.
But there was a 12-hour period at about that time that had 5 killed.
Idiots who know NOTHING about guns should not write articles about them.
Yes, they ARE self-righteous bastards, huh?
Somebody inform this idiot that most of the Aurora victims were hit with BUCKSHOT, FROM A SHOTGUN!!!!
I’m not insulted. Better a “Person of the Gun” than a “Slave of the State”.
>> Somebody inform this idiot that most of the Aurora victims were hit with BUCKSHOT, FROM A SHOTGUN!!!!
Is that so? First time I’ve heard that. It makes some sense though.
Well...they do cost about the same.
That Should include you, sorry if I sound harsh but you have a magazine fed Semi-Automatic rifle. I get so tired of people who think they are gun people replace the word clip for a magazine... Clips help you load magazines!! Sorry about the rant but I doesn't help the the Cause if you can't properly name the parts of a weapon. I'll not be replying if you chose to send back a negative reply.
And, which of these are "Gun Free Zones?"
ALL OF THEM!
Somebody inform this idiot that most of the gun crimes are black-on-black.
How about if you even look like a gang-banger, you will be subject to close scrutiny, harassment and frequent searches.
What if his rifle is an M1?
Behind the scenes to this anti gun reaction is the US Pharmaceutics industry. What all these shooters share is they all are on psychotropic drugs. Anti depression drugs as well as behavioral controlling drugs are common amongst all these shooters. No drug is fully tested, and when used in a large population, someone among them will react adversely to it. Holmes was treated with drugs for behavioral issues and he had a bad reaction and became violent. Eliminating guns will not stop the homicidal act by these drugged up individuals. If they don’t kill massively they simply stalk the streets and killing their victims one by one in a serial manner. The terror will not be in hours but in weeks over a wide area. Problem is perscription drugs, not guns. Look carefully and you will see big Pharma is also funding and lobbying gun control to take the attention off their violence inducing drugs.
Other than the Federal background check. And aren't all firearms lethal?
What a stupendously idiotic statement. It sets the tone for the entire article.
“semiautomatic assault rifle”: contradiction in terms, much like the phrase “thinking liberal”
