It hadn't been two decades since the feminist movement of the '60s when Walter Mondale announced Geraldine Ferraro as his running mate in 1984. Five years after Britain elected Margaret Thatcher as its first female prime minister, Americans also welcomed the idea of a woman holding a significant position of power.
The late Ferraro was an educated woman. She served her own jurisdiction as district attorney and went on to win a seat in the House of Representatives in 1979. Four years later, Mondale took a chance on her. She made history as the Democrat Party's first female vice presidential nominee.
In their campaign against Reagan/Bush in '84, the Mondale/Ferraro ticket wound up losing in a landslide. Nevertheless, it could be argued that Ferraro's significance in the race carried what energy the ticket had. They won 34 million American votes -- 40% of the popular vote.
Though the results were disappointing, Democrat operatives and talking heads managed to move forward without consistently dragging Ferraro's name through the mud.

Yep.
Right I know. We’ll get our chance, one day. Keep praying.
Yes and yes again. Where Sarah goes we should all go.Follow her yes.
bump!
Has anybody been paying attention to Bristol’s reality show? The most recent episode has 3-year old Tripp dropping the F-bomb and telling his mother and Aunt Willow how much he hates them.
As long as that show is on the air, the more it is going to diminish Sarah’s gravitas.
Joe Scarborough and Barack Obama share the very same values
Are you in the “know” and should I just shut up and wait? Will I be happy with the surprise? How many know? Is this twenty questions?
One more question...Any specific prayer? Or should we simply number it NO: 111111111 so the guy upstairs knows we are in agreement with all the other prayers.
“...McCain did not intend to win...”
I believe McCain wasn’t supposed to win. As I look back over the last few decades, I see a gradual but definite shift away from the Constitutional Republic we used to have. Many have said that it was due to our own laziness that the career politicians were allowed to stay in office for multiple terms. Maybe, but if we look around the world at the other countries that have transitioned from some sort of democratic government to more totalitarian types, we see many common threads.
A relatively recent victim of this malaise is Argentina but it doesn’t take much research to find others. In Argentina the national debt was increased with various entitlement plans until the people simply couldn’t earn enough money to pay it off. At the same time the farmland was bought up by international corporations which then planted crops that Argentinians had no use for, forcing them to import their food. All the while the politicians were playing ‘musical chairs’ by bringing in first one man as President, then another until the present regime came to power. Admittedly, Ms. Kirchner first came on the scene as the first lady but when her husband was term-limited, she stepped right into the spot he had held.
Remember thos farms that had been bought up by international corporations? Well, those corporations are generally owned or controlled by a single person who just happens to also control the international media. The same media that touted the Kirchners in Argentina is now telling us we should vote for Obama while simultaneously trashing Sarah Palin and the Tea Party.
Now, who is that single, powerful person behind all this? All together now, let’s say it: “George Soros.” There, I knew you could do it. He’s the same guy who nearly destroyed the British monetary system and laughingly referred to it as “fun”. He’s the fellow who - as a young man - arranged for the Nazis to seize the property of his neighbors and fellow Jews. He also once referred to himself as “like a God.” George Soros is running our country right now. He may not be sitting in the Oval Office but he also doesn’t have a bunch of reporters sticking their noses into his business all the time either.
Art, did you see the “you didn’t build that” video almost immediatly after 0 said it. IMO it was the best one out...2 min long. Britol has certainly found a voice. Know several young women who follow her/relate to her.
She made many friend in Hollywood with her work ethic and attitude on DWS. It’s 0 base and she was holding her own in enemy territory.
Our youth has only had those liberals to use as role models. Bristol and Willow are providing a conservative alternative.
