The AR-15 is typically the higher end of the sports rifle crowd. The Ak variant sports rifles are a bit cheaper and vary in levels of qualify reflecting the price.

I'm not so keen on an AR-15 knowing the requirement for constant maintenance and the issues that plague it if one does not follow a ritualized maintenance regiment.

That being said, give me something that will pop through CBS in one shot and reach and touch the target behind it.

I’m not a big fan of the original AR gas system myself. Though the piston uppers look like they may eventually fix that problem.

In the meantime, I’m sticking with things like the FAL, AK, etc., that have gas pistons, when I want to rely on them. The ARs are for range fun. As one person put it, the AR is like Barbie for men.

Neither am I sold on the AR though two of them are not so very far one could say..
