ELBERTA, Summerdale --
President Obama's decision to talk gun control and discuss a ban on assault weapons are hot topics along the Gulf Coast.
Despite the tragic, shooting massacre in Colorado, gun shops continue to sell AR-15's and AK-47's to gun enthusiasts and sportsmen.
The AR-15 is NOT widely used in crime.
According the FBI, of the 199 homicides recorded in Alabama in 2010, handguns were used in 112, hands, fists or feet were used in 17, knives were used in 23....none were committed with a rifle.
Gun control has and will be debated for decades...an issue now on presidential campaign agenda.

A stands for Armalite, not automatic.

I recall being on the local range thirty years ago with my Colt SP1, and I'd be the only guy there with a Mattel -- everything else was blued steel and wood (except for the occasional Nylon 66).
How times have changed. Now you go to the range and half the rifles on the line are ARs.
Bwahahahahah!

Some people have reported that a Sierra 150 GK does fine in a 1/10, but it seems to be hit or miss and more dependent on the individual rifle (much like firing the heavier stuff out of a 1/9 AR). 160-170 is what they’re more optimized for.

They want to ban the Barret 50 BMG too, although a 50 BMG has NEVER been used in a crime.

Holy crap, I didn’t think that many different calibers were available for the AR platform.

Not so.
5, 30 cal balls moving at 1150 fps is pretty good for close quarters

That actually surprises me, mainly because of the price.
I would have guessed the Ruger 10-22 as the most popular or maybe the Marlin model 60.
If limited to high powered rifles I would have thought the Remington model 700.
I also was surprised several months ago to see 3 different AR type rifles in the Wal-Mart rather limited gun rack. 4 if you count the Sig .22LR which looked just like an AR style or maybe I should say an STG style rifle.
