[A] Chicago official has pledged to block the fast-food chain from opening in his district amid a heated national debate over the place of the gay marriage debate in corporate America.

The company’s offense? President Dan Cathy’s comments . . . that he is “guilty as charged” of defining marriage [traditionally]. In other words, he’s not in favor of gay marriage.
“If you are discriminating . . . I don't want you in the 1st Ward," Moreno told the Tribune . . . “Because of this man’s ignorance, I will now be denying Chick-fil-A’s permit to open a restaurant in the 1stWard.”
He also added that Cathy’s comments were “bigoted, homophobic.”
Chicago’s mayor, Rahm Emanuel, followed suit with his own statement: "Chick-fil-A values are not Chicago values. They disrespect our fellow neighbors and residents. This would be a bad investment, since it would be empty."

Last week, Chick-fil-A issued a statement saying it would “leave leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena." The company added that it has always aimed to “treat every person with honor, dignity and respect -- regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender.”
The reaction has been intense:
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino told the Boston Herald that he no longer wanted Chick-fil-A in his city.
Muppets creator Jim Henson Co. backed out of a partnership with the chain to make kids meals toys.
Protestors are planning to congregate outside locations tonight; participating same-sex couples will publicly embrace.

you know when we think about this and what caused this then it truely is pathetic and stupid.
It’s not about love as I love many things but do not feel the need to marry them.
It’s about sex plain and simple and how they like to get off in their unnatural unhealthy way and those supporters seem to forget how nature or God made us to keep the human species going.
Because of their sex they think they should get special rights and it is special rights unless we allow all sorts of mariage of which they are opposed to.
When one looks at history and sees how the NAZI’s acted against Jews et then the same tactics are being used today by the far left and regardles of how the far left try to say they are not NAZI’s their tactics show us otherwise.
Sadly our side are pathetic and cowardly and will not raise this issue, hell Hannity etc is a fraud and PC as well as most talk radio.

In the past, before my celiac diagnosis, I loved Chick Fil-A stuff. These days, I must enjoy only virtually. They have my support, though.

Thanks so much for that link. I agree with what the piece is saying, and that he never said ONE word against gays nor gay marriage - but the fact that he said he stood for traditional marriage is all it took for this rabid advocates to smear him, and the media lap it up.

I agree, but the problem is that each store is an independentaly owned franchise. Each restaurant owner most likely can’t afford to take that action....
Can this be legal? Aren’t these city mayors violating the first amendment rights of Mr. Cathy and also descriminating to the extend of exclusion?

It does not seem legal to me - and it seems discriminatory and unconstitutional. It would be interesting to hear a FR attorney’s take on this, would welcome it.
H so true! Incidentally, Mr. Cathy also said of his Company, We are all married, to our first wives and are blessed for that. Does that mean they hate divorced people? Where are the outcries from divorced people? Where in the news are their hissy fits? hmmmm.
