WINDSOR
In his first extensive public comments on the deadly Colorado movie theater shootings, former U.S. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd on Monday called for gun restrictions and questioned why Americans should be able to buy assault weapons.
Dodd, a Democrat who now serves as CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, said the deaths of 12 moviegoers and the wounding of 58 more in the Denver suburb of Aurora is "a national tragedy'' caused by "a deranged individual.'' The shootings have revived calls for gun control by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and others.
"It happened there, but it could have happened anywhere, regretfully,'' Dodd said while attending an event in Windsor, where he was campaigning on behalf of Democrat Leo Canty, a longtime union activist who is running for the state legislature.
"How does someone order 6,000 rounds of ammunition?'' Dodd asked a small group of reporters. "Why are they selling these assault weapons? ...Explain to me why it is you're selling assault weapons to the general public. There's not a decent hunter I know who would hunt anything with an assault weapon.''

Outlaw ‘costumes’.
We aren't playing around.
Not sure giving him a militia to play with would be a great idea...
Giving him a Citizens Militia to WORRY about, now that I could get behind. I'd sign up tomorrow.
There is no evidence that Dodd repaid or paid anything on the sweetheart loan from Country Wide
I am glad to hear that. But after Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton x2, and obama,My confidence in the American public on a whole is low.
His daddy is the one who saddled us with an Americanized version of the Nazi weapons act. The 1968 gun control law.
“Today we make America safe by taking guns out of the hands of criminals!” -Lyndon B. Johnson when he signed that travesty into law.
TV dumbed down to kiddie shows for many years, comic books toned down the violence, the 1968 GCA was passed, all movies from the 1940s through the 1960s were butchered to remove “violence” before being shown on TV.
The movie industry said they would police themselves with a joke of a rating system.
As a result movie scripts were rewritten to became more violent and with stronger sexual content. Just give it an R rating and let the blood drip from the screen.
I remember seeing a western movie back in 1969 that was so tame you could leave the kids there with no problem.
I saw that same movie on satellite TV a few months ago and strong sexual scenes had been added that would never have made it even with an R rating back in 1969.
I have read the same thing.
The shootings in Aurora show the need for carbon emissions trading and solar energy.
The heat wave this summer definitively illustrates the urgent need for a total assault weapons ban.
The Aurora massacre was greatly facilitated by Cinemark’s “Restrictions on Weapons” in their threaters. Looks like we need FEWER restrictions.
The miscreant was so gun shy that, even in this gun-free environment, he took extreme measures to avoid injury donning body armour, ballistic gloves, gas mask with face shield. I suspect that had guns NOT been banned in this theater the prospect of return fire would have modified his behavior to the point of discouraging him outright. He would have chosen a different target.
One is a slimy, scum sucking, smelly, noisy non-human and the other one is an amphibian?
“What city are you in?”
Kearny, NJ (smack between Newark and Jersey City, about 10 miles west of NYC)
“Outlaw costumes.”
As I understand it that is already being done.
