WINDSOR
In his first extensive public comments on the deadly Colorado movie theater shootings, former U.S. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd on Monday called for gun restrictions and questioned why Americans should be able to buy assault weapons.
Dodd, a Democrat who now serves as CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, said the deaths of 12 moviegoers and the wounding of 58 more in the Denver suburb of Aurora is "a national tragedy'' caused by "a deranged individual.'' The shootings have revived calls for gun control by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and others.
"It happened there, but it could have happened anywhere, regretfully,'' Dodd said while attending an event in Windsor, where he was campaigning on behalf of Democrat Leo Canty, a longtime union activist who is running for the state legislature.
"How does someone order 6,000 rounds of ammunition?'' Dodd asked a small group of reporters. "Why are they selling these assault weapons? ...Explain to me why it is you're selling assault weapons to the general public. There's not a decent hunter I know who would hunt anything with an assault weapon.''

BS. Hey Dodd why don’t you return the money you stole from the public.
Wherever there is more access to firearms, there is less crime.
You want a red-flag. What about body armor?
Nobody, repeat, nobody goes hunting or target shooting in kevlar body armor. The only thing it is good for is combat and commiting crimes.
His father give us the gift of the 1968 GCA. According to JPFO, the GCA is based on the Nazi gun laws.
As I said with Bloomberg, there’s still plenty of time for him to run for President as an independent. He should do so and MAKE HIS CASE to the people. Otherwise he should SHUT UP.
Dodd now pulls down $1.2 million, and now serves as CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, the lobbying arm of the movie industry. This new career seems to fly in the face of his 2010 avowal that he would do no lobbying.
He *respects* 2A rights as much as his father Tom Dodd did....after daddy gave us The Gun Control Act of 1968. The apple doesn't fall far....
Tom Dodd and the Nazi Weapons Law
What is needed is more restictions on movies. That is the problem. “Physician, heal thy self.”
The 2nd Amd has been around for 220 years. Multiple-shot handguns are 150 years old. Semi-auto "assault rifles" are 80 years old. Yet there were no maniac massacres to speak of.
What has changed is the culture. Dark, nihilistic movies with evil but charismatic "anti-heroes" have only existed in the last 30 or so years. Yet liberals don't want to discuss the smashing of cultural and moral values, only the availability of guns!
Ya beat me to it. With all the violence, murder and mayhem we see in the movies, etc., the first place to start is to regulate agains’t it at the movie theater . Hit the movie makers in the pocket book and things will be changed. Boycott all movies of violence.
Keep in mind what Sadam’s people used.....Swords! “Off with their heads”. Guess we need to go after swords then too.
It says a lot, though none of it good, about the condition of the Nation,to wit, those who have a slave mentality vs. those who still believe in personal freedom and personal responsibility. While I think that it should be 100% freedom vs 0% slave, from what I witness day to day it is more 95-99% slave vs 5-1 % freedom.
WE NEED MORE RESTRICTIONS ON COMMUNISTS THAT HAVE INFECTED OUR GOVERNMENT AND ARE DESTROYING OUR VERY WAY OF LIFE... LIKE dodd HERE!

I don’t agree. The elites might control most of the MSM, but just read the comments in the liberal papers after their pro gun control articles and editorials. At least 80% of the comments are anti the paper and anti gun control. Ditto every online poll I’ve seen. Our message is getting out, despite the elite MSM.
Guns in law abiding hands stop a whole lot more violence than guns in thugs’ hands, start.
We need a Continental Militia. Armed citizens following the model of the Israeli society. Answerable ONLY to the governor of their state and not connected to any Federal agency.
More gun control? Guns were already totally, completely, 100% absolutely banned in that theater. Which is precisely why the shooter chose it as a target.
