As NewsBusters previously reported, ABC's Brian Ross on Friday falsely accused a Tea Party member of being the "James" Holmes that orchestrated the movie theater massacre in Aurora, Colorado.
"Jim" Holmes during an interview with the Daily Caller had some harsh words for his accuser saying, "What kind of idiot makes that kind of statement?”
“Really, seriously, how do we take a journalist seriously when it’s pretty clear they really haven’t done any sort of check on their facts?” told the Caller's Alex Pappas:
Holmes informed Pappas that ABC News didn’t contact him before Ross went on air.
In fact, he still hasn’t heard from anyone there or received a direct apology...

San Diego attorney Lisa J. Damiani read a statement from Holmes' mother Arlene saying that, when she received a call from an ABC News reporter early Friday morning, she said "Yes, you have the right person" in reference to herself, not her son.

Screw 10 million. I would go for ALL sponsor revenue during Ross’ broadcast for an entire year. What the tea party should do starting today is putting out television and radio ads asking Americans to boycott the sponsors for supporting this kind of behavior.

Ross knew exactly what he was doing. It was not stupidity, nor was it an accident or slip of the lip. It was deliberate and calculated to get the desired result.
Most of the time Jon has a smirk on his face, but NOT this time. He is appears to be dead serious about this issue. Which is good to see from his normal side of the issue leanings.

All he had to do was find the guy at home and he'd know it wasn't him because the perp was already in custody. It wasn't lazy, it was corrupt, dishonest and just plain EVIL. He could find a TEA Party connection but couldn't find a phone number?
In some ways this is even worse than what Dan Rather did.
What Dan Rather did was wrong ad deserved to get fired as he did.
The difference here is that Bush was a public figure. (not that it makes it right to lie as Rather did and as cBS has done for years.) Rather got fired because of credibility issues he caused manufacturing documents.
This Tea Party member is a private citizen. And that alone could be a reason to sue ABC.
Secondly, he started receiving threats after ABC falsely accused him of being the killer. His life could have been endangered (and who knows could be now).
He should get a lawyer and go after them.
I second that “hope”. The only way to stop this kind of yellow journalism is to sue the living daylights out of the Mr. Rosses of the world.
