Great achievements and it appears among her many firsts, she was the first gay astronaut.

In addition to Tam O’Shaughnessy, her partner of 27 years,...

TAM O'SHAUGHNESSY Dr. Tam O'Shaughnessy is the COO and Executive Vice President of Sally Ride Science and a Professor Emerita of School Psychology at San Diego State University.">

she was the first gay astronaut.

She was gay? Wow. I can never remember it being mentioned when she was active in the space program, or after she retired.

Not that it mattered or should have mattered...

[ Great achievements and it appears among her many firsts, she was the first gay astronaut. ]

Even if she was Gay if she had been all in your face about it we would have heard nothing BUT that fact about it from the LGBTQ alphabet soup people 24/7 all the freeking time...

In fact if it was just a barely mentioned footnote and she didn’t spew it all over the place and lead “pride” marches this make me appreciate her even more.

So the real question isn’t: “Was she Gay” the REAL question is: “Did she use being Gay to push the Gay agenda down everyone’s throats?”

If the answer to the second question is NO, then I respect her for her time in space as the first female astronaut even more!

God can judge her for her sins as he will judge the rest of us one day. I am just going to celebrate the life and achievements of a great American.

According to Wikipedia,

Ride married fellow NASA astronaut Steve Hawley in 1982; they divorced in 1987. From 1985 until her death, Ride's female partner was Dr. Tam E. O'Shaughnessy, a childhood friend who met Ride when both youngsters were aspiring tennis players. O'Shaughnessy became a science teacher and writer and, later, the chief operating officer and executive vice president of Ride's company, Sally Ride Science. She also co-authored several books with Ride. Their same-sex relationship of 27 years was revealed in Ride's obituary released by Sally Ride Science and confirmed by Ride's sister. Her sister stated that Ride preferred to keep this information private during her life.

Her preference for privacy kept the focus on her achievements, not her (non)reproductive choice. You have to salute Ride's discipline and unwillingness to be made a political pawn. Condolences to her accomplished partner, who appears to have been at least an intellectual soulmate.
