National Guardsman identified as Darius attended a recent "Brony" convention. (BuzzFeed/Katie Notopoulos)
There's a new insignia showing up on the sleeves of a small group of military men, ... it advertises their love for a cartoon inspired by the girlish 1980s plastic toy called "My Little Pony."
"... the bronies, have taught me that there are things and people worth protecting; things bigger and more important than myself," writes Ken "Derpy" Catlin. "All because I decided to watch some "gay" little show about 6 ponies... I cannot thank you, the MLP team, or the ponies themselves enough for what they have done for me, and this world."
Within the larger group, military Bronies hold a place of honor. At ... "BronyCon 2012" ... civilian Bronies cheered wildly when they spied brethren in uniform...
We barely made it up to the top steps and everyone outside was cheering for us," a National Guardsman ... told the site...
... A commenter on a Military Times forum was just one of many who questioned why grown men would feel such allegiance to a kids' cartoon.
I can think of at least four violations ... attending a My Little Pony convention.
... franchise has long been associated with little girls ... have sought to reel in males with more unisex storylines. The show stars Twilight Sparkle, a unicorn pony and five other ponies who are guided through ponyville by Princess Celestia.
As for the brass, asked if she had ever heard of the phenomenon of Military Bronies, a ... spokeswoman said "I'm unaware of the concept. But when told about Rainbow Dash patches finding their way onto uniforms ... there could be a problem.
Please note, non-authorized, non-military patches are not authorized for wear on military uniforms, she said.

Can anyone tell me what the BR part of Brony stands for?
I realized the ony part is pony, but have no idea on the br part, as in why is it bronycon, instead of ponycon..
Following tradition, his table was left unoccupied, his coffee cup turned upside down, one rose was left and also a slice of lemon (because we are bitter that he is no longer with us). It was mentioned whenever people called him cute a a la the whole My Little Pony thing he would emphasize, NOT CUTE!!! Someone drew the following cartoon.
Godspeed to the late Sgt. Henry "Waarhorse" Bestwick. I salute you
brother, as in male fans, as i understand it
The patch exhibits a veritable “Rainbow” of color.
I think it means brother or bro. The same as a non-gay friendship between men is often called bromance. So it’s males who enjoy My Little Pony—Brony. Don’t taze me, Brony!
The most disturbing part of this article is that John DeLancie is voicing a MLP character.
Worse, next thing you know, they'll start wearing the French flag.
Good Lord, isn’t this grounds for a dishonorable discharge? What is our military coming to?
Must admit I'd be hard pressed to call a guy who faints over a cartoon unicorn and Princess Celestia from "Ponyville" my brother.
I’ve been reading Reddit a long time and I think “my little pony” refers to a pedophile’s penis. It’s how they entice young children to follow them.
It took me a long time to figure it out, but after reading hundreds of threads where ‘my little pony’ is referred to over there, it’s definitely a homosexual reference that they fear explicitly talking about online.
Only gays seem to chime in on those threads, and it’s something that excites and delights them and has to do with children. Now when I see it mentioned on threads over there, I run the other way as fast as I can. Disgusting stuff.
I have to emphasize again that this is only my interpretation since they won’t come out and say what it actually is, only beat around the bush a whole lot in such a way that it leaves little doubt. imho
An nation's institutions are necessarily a reflection of its people. A nation gets the Government (and military) it deserves.
OTOH, my son found himself in the Brony room at a local furrycon.
One of the other, um, guests asked about Rule 34 for MLP, and was promptly ejected.
