A suspect was wounded in an officer-involved shooting in Anaheim Saturday and a protest about that shooting later turned into a near riot.
The shooting took place in the 600 block of N. Anna Drive just after 4 p.m.
Residents, protesting what they say is an increased police violence against them in the community, started the near riot on nearby La Palma.
Jay Jackson, reporting for CBS2 and KCAL9, said the scene was chaotic. More than six hours later, he said residents were still out in the streets protesting the shooting.
The residents blocked off a street and set fire to at least one dumpster.
Earlier in the day, police in riot gear, fired rubber bullets into the crowd. Several protesters lifted their shirts to show large red welts on their torsos and backs. Residents told Jackson that police overreacted and created the disturbance.
One man said, They just started shooting.
Police also set a K-9 officer on one woman and a bystander they said were agitating the situation.
Said Susan Lopez, I had my baby with me. My baby! The dog scratched me and then grabbed me. She added, They shot at me while I was holding a baby! Another woman yelled, They just shot at us, they shot at a little kid, too.
According to police, two patrol officers observed three male suspects in an alley.
Police said the suspects tried to flee on foot when a chase ensued.
The shooting reportedly occurred after one of the officers encountered one of the suspects in a courtyard.
The shooting took place in the 700 block of N. Anna.
The suspect, condition unknown, was taken to UCI Medical Center. Neighbors identified the man as Stomper.
No officers were injured.
The other two suspects are at-large.
Anaheim Police Sgt. Bob Dunn said, What exactly led to the shooting, we dont know. Were still investigating. But a shooting did occur. And the male was taken to a hospital.
Authorities said the circumstances regarding the shooting were under investigation by members of the gangs unit and Orange County District Attorneys office.
Four people told Jackson that police offered to buy their cell phone video.
Sadly, I tend to agree. There is a video a number of years back where state police pulled over a family on the interstate in a van. Probably some traffic violation, etc. There were atleast 2 officers involved, and one with a Remington 870 deployed. The whole family is out of the van along the road, and it looks like their little Jack Russel terrior is confused by the whole ordeal and starts barking at the officers. I can’t imagine a police officer getting too overly concerned about a Jack Russell, but the officer with the 870 turns and absolutely blasts the dog to bits with buckshot. My view of law enforcement has been marred to say the least after viewing that.
Thug cops come in all colors...
Only thing that matters to these cops is the thin blue line.
August is the month American cities will burn.
The realization that the Messiah is less than an ordinary man and is not going to continue will dash hope. The dashing of hope will be manifest in destruction on a very large scale.
Politically correct administrators will allow the fires to burn rather than risk the wrath of the feral urban terror.
Yet another poorly written press report.
They should have sent them to Disneyland. Then the riot is over as they go to the happiest place on earth. (sarcasm)
The short of it is, if police would limit themselves to shooting white males, they wouldn’t have these problems.
Funny that she felt safe enough to involve herself and her baby in a riot against the police. Much ado about nothing. Hyped up racial card hysteria for the media and race baiters in this country.
“Answer: Bad guys carry guns. Some bad guys who carry guns run from the police. When bad guys, who carry guns, cant outrun the police, they use those guns against the police.”
Solution; Allow police to shoot anyone they identify as a “bad guy”...because they carry guns and can’t run forever.
Seems reasonable...
It’s a cultural thing, I suppose. People in my neighborhood don’t run from the police, guns or no guns!
My bet is that the officer that shot the guy was either a woman or an over weight out of shape doughnut eater. Both of these types tend to go for their guns too quickly, especially women cops.
There is no accountability for cops any more, they are far too willing to just blast away at people. Sad but those are the times we live in.
Someone with a very low IQ.
Perhaps, in some cases. Consider, in this case, there are Anaheim neighborhoods full of (insert racial demographic here) thugs. It's not all Disneyland up there, you know. The reference to "Stomper" (typical gang monicker) should have given you a clue that it was a gang infested neighborhood filled with sympathetic friends and families of gang members. Not unusual here.
And don't believe everything you read or hear in the news.
Agreed..I grew up not far from here & know exactly where that neighborhood is. Sadly, it’s starting to resemble Tijuana..
There are some serious bad guys around there & of course, the wannabe thugs who are sometimes just as dangerous.
It’s not the SoCal I grew up in...
Though I certainly agree with your point...to me firing rubber bullets into women and child seems an over reaction
I bet “Stop Snitchin’” T-Shirts sell real well there.
Sounds like they didn't want to identify him.
The procedure used to be bounce the rubber bullets off the pavement into the legs.
Now it appears to be the far more dangerous aimed fire to the torso.
Sayyyyyy, isn't this the same PD that beat a homeless man to death just last year?
Kind of unusual doncha' think?
