I agree with you Jim. I have resisted commenting on what I see as the end of American freedom. I truly fear that there are not enough of us left in this country that will stand on the principals of the founding fathers. Its been truly dismaying to watch even those on this site buckle under the pressure and intimidation. I watch as members of organized religions accept abortion, homosexuals, and all manner of behavior contrary to teaching is scripture. With over 50% of the population on government assistance of some sort its obvious that its not only Dems who have turned from makers to takers. Add to that the bleeding hearts who facilitate the taking from those who produce and giving to those who take its not difficult to see that this country has fallen deeply into a socialistic mindset.
Those who have fallen for the meme that the best we can do is Romney are not going to be the ones who bring this country back to what the founders envisioned. If even the churches are falling from biblical principles Im not sure where we look for strong principle people who will stand with us.
This patriot is standing his ground...
Gonna Need Popcorn for This One Bump...
The only thing missing from this rant is an alternative course of action.
There is a patriot in the house. And he can write.
Thank you, Jim.
We’ve got conservatives who are more pragamatists than conservative, and we’ve got conservatives who are more afraid than they are conservative, but then we’ve got the s.o.b. conservatives who cross lines. No surrender. I wanna hang with these. And we may.
Sad to leave the kids and the grandkids in the hands of the pragmatists and the fearfilled, but may Almighty God step in on their behalf and for the sake of our prayers.
REBELLION IS HARD AND IT’S SCARY. RESISTANCE COMES WITH A COST. ANYTHING LESS IS SLAVERY. DESERVEDLY SO.
God be with us all.
In my job, I deal with the safety of aircraft systems. When faced with a choice of bad alternatives, one takes the least bad alternative and tries to consider how to mitigate the issue, outside of the currently available alternatives.
Romney is no conservative, but he is more conservative (by orders of magnitude) over Obama.
The mitigation comes in down-ticket, I think. And in the infiltration of the process for selecting a presidential candidate.
I do not like Romney - I have stated before that I could not vote for him. In recent months I have reconsidered my position, and I despise the fact that the GOP-e has forced me into a corner - either vote Romney or accept another four years of Obama.
But that does not change the fact that local, House, and Senate votes can carry more conservative weight.
I do not know how to ameliorate the damage done by the centrist/liberal jerkwads in the GOP. But we can think outside the box a little, with breathing room bought by electing Liberal Romney.
A battle lost does not negate the war.
AMEN.
You have served our beloved country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy. Then you were a pioneer in the realm of computing, blazing a trail that ultimately led to the America's exclusive forum for genuine Conservative activism and moral absolutes. Your past record is unblemished and praiseworthy, to say the least.
With those impressive and considerable accomplishments, many would rest on their laurels. You're different and better than those lesser men. I have long learned from your essays over the years (since a friend at church first made me aware of Free Republic on the first Sunday after 9/11).
But this essay may well be your finest hour. Your clear, concise and unapologetic stance on true Constitutional Conservatism is a clarion call for American patriots. Beside being great writing, it's an inspirational wake-up call for those of us who cherish liberty and freedom. Thank the Lord for a steadfast, Christian man like Jim Robinson and for this pro-God, pro-gun, pro-life meeting place: FREE REPUBLIC. May God continue to richly bless you, John and the rest of your family.
If its that important to keep Romney from winning, you should just vote Obama.

Many of your points are well taken but do not consider the fact of a two party system. In America, unlike Israel and many other nations, we govern with a coalition of many disparate groups with enough in common to elect a President. The big tent you reference is a coalition of coalitions.
One of the lessons to be learned from the recent primary attempt to find the candidate preferable to the most of those disparate groups is that the conservatism you describe doesn’t exist. There is no actual monolithic conservative force. Apparently it is the nature of conservatives to be unable to agree on enough of the basic issues you describe to be able to exert the influence required to prevail. That fact is nowhere better illustrated than right here. It is not an exaggeration to say that blood was spilled here on Free Republic in the primary battles of words and slogans.
Regarding the Tea Party, that too seems not to be monolithic in that several groups took the name and acted but not in total concert. I’m sure you recall the awesome gathering of Tea Partiers in DC. That may have been the high water mark. It was a very impressive display of the conservative desire to stop the progressive scourge. That it even happened is evidence of a conservative force that had not previously been so publicly displayed. The effects can not be measured precisely but we know the next congress benefited.
Then there is the fact that politics is the art of what is possible. While the desire is to promote and develop conservatism in it’s purist form, the reality is that for many, probably most, identity is neither with the conservatives or the GOP-e. The strong desire is to identify with the winner.
That results in sort of a middle course, moderation. To be moderate is easy. To be at either of the extremes requires thought and consideration. From my attendance of Tea Party events, I suspect that many were swayed from their comfortable position by the very admirable actions and words of the the purer conservatives.
Lastly, the ongoing process is a war, a war with liberalism. The loss of one battle is not the loss of the war. It is certainly not the end of the war. The cycle for the dying North East Republicans is now up, but the trend is against them. Their population is dwindling and their real power is ebbing.
I would urge that building a larger and stronger coalition within the Tea Party movement is still the best course. The war will never be won by fighting battles outside the tent
yes, Romney is a mild “leftist BUT Obama is an outright COMMUNIST. You need to “retreat” in this battle in order to be able to eventually win the war. If the communists take over the Constitution is dead.
On June 24, 2008, Rove said of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, "Even if you never met him, you know this guy. He's the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini and a cigarette that stands against the wall and makes snide comments about everyone."
Seemed a strange comment at the time, but I can see it now. Not the country club or the beautiful date. Maybe not even the martini. But Obama is that guy with the cigarette standing against the wall making snide comments. Strange that anyone thought he'd be more than that.
Amen brother!
Was there a true conservative in the bunch to begin with? Bachmann? Perry? Cain (what the hell was his deal?), Newt (for crying out loud, people here were rooting for Newt! He was hated just a year earlier.) The elites gave us Romney? Where was a conservative to vote for in the mix? Maybe Bachmann, but she just wasn’t ready for prime time.
Saddest day for me was when Sarah said she wasn’t running. It’s been downhill since then, but I will vote for Romney. Say what you will, but I do not think he hates America and I’ll take that over the current dirt bag.
I am with you Jim.
I believe you are on God’s side in this struggle.
” ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ saith the Lord.” Zechariah 4:6
Jim, you live in California. You can vote for your cat and it won’t make a difference.
Look who got elected governor... Jerry Brown who is just as dumb this time as he was last time.
We all know that Obama is going to win California and it’s really easy to say I’m not voting for Romney when we know he doesn’t have a chance in that state anyway.
Other people in other states have a real decision to make.
