When the Roundtable discussion on ABC's This Week Sunday predictably turned to who Mitt Romney should pick as his running mate if he seals the Republican presidential nomination, former Obama green jobs czar Van Jones made an interesting observation.
"You want to do something bold, put Condoleezza Rice on the ticket and watch the Obama campaign go crazy" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

For perhaps the first and only time, I agree with Van Jones!
——————She is not a Politician ———————
I know this is going to open me up to attack from some but I don’t care.
If Condi represents “not a politician” and Jim Demint represents “career politicians”, then no question for me, give me the career politicians.
But of course it needs to be said, both Demint and Condi are probably exceptions to the rule. Give us Allen West or someone else who’s reliably conservative.
Condi is not a conservative and that is all that matters. She’s not one of us, we don’t want her.
Rice is just a two-fer. Black and female. Called balancing the ticket. Hope it’s just a trial balloon.

I mean SERIOUSLY, does that look conservative to you or just another government payoff?
Alan Keyes will NEVER get a vote from me.
Biden would have both feet in his mouth at halfway through haha
gosh, what’s a sh*thead like Van Jones (is that the name he’s using now?) doing on a mainstream television show?
This sounds like a "don't throw me in that briar patch" moment.
Actually I see this as Van Jones being a bitter little
!>rick against the Obama admin as it wasn’t communist enough.
I really don’t think Condi is conservative.
Unfortunately any black person who might be chosen is going to be seen as nothing more than "an affirmative action" pick.
Damaging on both sides of the political divide.
Now don’t get me wrong. We could do a WHOLE LOT WORSE than Condi Rice. But, I believe we could put someone in who has been a governor and has fought to balance a state budget and who has taken on the unions and won and who has the executive experience to MAKE DECISIONS and live by them. We have a whole lot of governors out there who fit that bill.
So, I propose we encourage Allen West to run for governor of Florida and support him entirely. Let him get executive experience. He has many years left yet to run. And for a FACT, he already has more experience than the perpetually campaigning and demagogic individual we currently have in the white house when he ran.
This reminds me of when Beckel said the dems would like nothing better than to run against Newt.
Simply pick someone qualified. To me she's not.
Male, female, black, white, brown, red, yellow, green with purple polka dots (oh wait, that clown is already in office)...whatever.
Just tired of the games being played.
>>Give us Allen West or someone else whos reliably conservative.<<
I will tell you right now — NO ONE is conservative enough for Free Republic. Even Reagan would not be conservative enough.
It is really frustrating sometimes.
Do you consider this person to be qualified for the job?
I don't.
Greta is a freakin’ Scientologist. Anyone who believes what they believe is a goof so I don’t put much stock in what Oompa Loompa thinks about anything.
To generate the mindless, spastic, knee jerk reactions you have been witness to.
It isn't going to be Ms. Rice.
I believe she has more experience in foreign affairs. Not so much in what we really need. Budget and Finance.
Certainly you are not suggesting that a LTC doesn’t have executive experience...
