WOW. 4.4 million jobs.
Except — that that number isn't so impressive, when it is extrapolated:
4.4 million for 28 months = 157,142 new jobs per month or 39,285 new jobs per week.
During about 20 of those months, new weekly jobless claims were in the 450,000 range. In the last few weeks the number has dropped to the 385,000 range.
385,000 new WEEKLY jobless; 39,000 new WEEKLY jobs created. The economy is creating jobs at the rate of 1 for every 10 lost.
[Why does Obama use 'the last 28 months"? He has been in office 42 months.]

It is even worse for last month:
June 02 - initial claims - 377,000 revised to 380,000
June 09 - initial claims - 386,000 revised to 389,000
June 16 - initial claims - 387,000 revised to 392,000
June 23 - initial claims - 386,000 ...
Total INITIAL [+revised] claims for June: 1,547,000
1,547,000 initial [+revised] claims for unemployment vs. 80,000 [not 84,000 as Obama claimed] new jobs for the month.
At that rate, it would take over 19 MONTHS just to recover from the June numbers.
So they “created” 80 to 84,000 new jobs last month but 89,000 went on permanent Social Security Disability, to receive a fat check forever footed by all the rest of us from now on. They leave the work force, helping the “unemployment” numbers. Also, media does not talk about jobs lost, just jobs created.
Meanwhile we went over 2,000 US lives lost in Afghanistan with 1,399 of these incurred under Bambi’s pathetic 3 1/2 years of ROE and mismanagement as opposed to W’s 8 years (630 total). Media is silent.
One other thing, TomGuy...
While the jobless claims were at 80,000, during the same week 84,000 people received Social Security disability.
They’re set for life. They do not have to look for a job anymore, or work somewhere and pay taxes and be a productive American citizen. Now I know SSD isn’t a whole lot of money... But with rent assistance, food stamps, utility grants and other programs you can have a relatively comfortable life. And you don’t have to get off oyu’re fat disabled a$$ to even make a phone call, ‘cause you get an Obamaphone for free!
This just adds to the pool of voters who receive benefits from the government. Think they’ll vote for someone who wants to cut these benefits or taxes the workers drone even more so they can continue the gravy train?
Be very afraid!
It's even worse than you described, if that's possible.
To get to 4.4 million, Obama adds only the months where job numbers increased, and excludes all the months where they decreased. (That's why he excludes 15 months of his presidency.) Some would argue that you should even add the three months of jobs that tanked after Obama was elected, but not inaugurated. That would make it even far worse, yet.
If you used the same counting method for President Bush, the Bush presidency would have been a job generating dynamo. You could also argue that doing so for Bush would be appropriate, since the job losses due to the 9/11 attacks were hardly a result of Bush policies, while the job losses early in the Obama term were indeed caused by his policies.
Great explanation.
Zero keeps claiming over 4 million jobs created. How many were lost and what is the true number of created after those lost?
Also what is the true unemployment number including all those unemployed even the ones who have stopped looking.
Not to mention, 85,000 new Social Security Disability claims for the month!
