This is from the UK.
How exactly Jesus looked is not known but he looked Jewish enough that the Samaritan woman at the well not knowing who he was could recognize that he would worship at Jerusalem.
From all the paintings I have seen, he looks Italian.
lol. I love your post. Unfortunately he probably looked more Iraqi...
From what I’ve heard and read, Jesus Christ Superstar was intentionally written as blasphemy.
You heard from someone who likely never saw and certainly didn’t understand the play.
Our church put this on a few years back. It is your basic passion play with modern style music. I loved it. No blasphemy to me.
Is he going to add or change more material?
It was not intended as blasphemy. It is the passion story told from the perspective of Judas. Think of it as the “Gospel of Judas” set to music.
I have no idea. I'm still trying to figure out why RedBox doesn't offer the "Atlas Shrugged" DVD. ;-)
thanks for the post. this is one of my favorite musicals of all time.
Saw it as a play on a college campus in the early ‘70’s and was quite impressed. Loved the movie and the soundtrack - even though it got terrible reviews. And then saw it as a stage play with Teddy Neeley and Carl Anderson. One of the best concerts ever...
Tim Rice, who wrote Jesus Christ Superstar, on Jesus Christ:
“For me it obviously indicates that, Christ was just a super-prophet who - a fantastic man, who made a big mark on his time, and we dont really know all that much about him. The fact that an awful lot happened in Christs life that could easily be legend, I dont think diminishes the importance of the legend. But, I think, as the years roll on, in the 20th and 21st centuries, I think less and less people are going to think of Christ as a god, and I think more people are going to see him as a generally good thing. I dont see him as a god at all, and the opera doesnt categorically say he wasnt but I think it leaves the question very open.”
Blasphemy is not defined as what meets or doesn’t meet the criteria of our feelings.
Blasphemy is irreverence toward God. This includes the false claim that Christ is not God.

Jesus attempts to "soothe" the rantings of Judas thus:
"Surely you're not saying
We have the resources
To save the poor from their lot?
There will be poor always
Pathetically struggling
Look at the good things you've got!
Think while you still have me
Move while you still see me
You'll be lost
You'll be so sorry
When I'm gone"
You’re welcome. I thought it could bring interesting discussion.
The ultimate controversy about Jesus, among academics as well as in popular culture is this: Is Jesus merely a “good teacher/prophet” or is he God?
Jesus Christ Superstar expresses a clear opinion on the matter.
A believer in the Gospel of Christ cannot have much good to say about Jesus Christ Superstar, if he understands the musical.
“He’s a man, He’s just a man.”
How is that NOT blasphemy?????

The play also has the Apostles singing:
“Always thought that I’d be an Apostle,
Knew that I could make it if I tried,
then when we retire we could write the Gospels
so they’d still talk about us when we died”
Do you REALLY think the Apostles became Apostles so they’d be famous when they retired? Most of them ended up murdered for Jesus’ sake...
And Superstar ends NOT with his resurrection but with His death.
It’s a totally un-Christian play.

In your insistence to focus on one line, you have sadly lost sight of the big picture. Mary is in the process of making a conversion. (Key word: PROCESS) But unfortunately, you missed it. Why do you think that is?
