PRESIDENT OBAMA has endured much criticism of his legislative skills from his fellow progressives. His conciliatory approach has been compared unfavorably with Franklin D. Roosevelt’s gleeful pugnacity and Lyndon B. Johnson’s relentless arm-twisting. His willingness to strike deals with corporations has been tagged “business as usual.” Many progressives, frustrated over the past three years, have concluded that the political system is fundamentally broken because corporate power has been allowed to suffocate popular liberal policies.
But the Supreme Court’s upholding of Mr. Obama’s health care law reminds us that the president’s approach has achieved significant results. If his liberal critics paused to assess how he achieved such results, they would not see a system paralyzed by corporations; they would see that the most liberal reforms in more than 40 years have been brought about because Mr. Obama views corporate power as a force to bargain with, not an enemy to vanquish.

Just look at how Mr. Obama handled the health care law. Recently released e-mail exchanges between the White House and the pharmaceutical lobby, which detail a path of compromises that won the drug industry’s support for the Affordable Care Act, certainly look more like “business as usual” than “change.” The e-mails include a White House promise of a “direct line of communication” to lobbyists, along with a suggestion to “stay quiet” about an agreement that buried a proposal for cheap drug imports.
Well, I was impressed by the exposing of the duplicitous rhetoric of liberal presidents, former and current— by a liberal in the most prominent socialist publication.
“The end justifies the means.”
Mr. Liberal is very very pleased with himself and his principles today, and would like to share them for all to see and admire.
With these pieces of excrement I think it can most accurately be called "by any means necessary".
Obama is “conciliatory”? He has NEVER spoken politely about his opponents. He constantly insults and lies about his enemies, and his enemies list is enormous.
Sure, he makes deals with “capitalists.” These are his friends and donors, crooked crony capitalists and money launderers.
I'd be thrilled to vote Libertarian for a Congressional seat. But I won't waste a vote for a Gary Johnson or Ron Paul just to make a point. The consequences of that are unacceptable.
And I do wish that the Libertarian political philosophy had more cache, and that the drug legalization issue wasn't made out to be a pillar of Libertarianism, because it isn't. It's employed as a wedge issue by the GOP and Rats alike, and latched onto and championed by some of society's unfortunates. The grander issues of personal liberty and indv property rights and freedom from arbitrary government rule get almost lost in its wake.
Yes, there’s a certain smug arrogance there. I sense it too. Hopefully his kind will get slapped in the face by a new reality in the next 12 months. Or else...

What is there to be seen, is how liberals threaten corporations with their worst fears, if they don’t cooperate with “more moderate” change.
What the corporate heads fail to appreciate, is that the liberals lie, and will just eat them last.

Because your bumper sticker summary ignored the details regarding the methods used to get that “private wealth” to participate in their own demise.
I’m afraid that you are correct. I am sorry to be so cynical, but I am afraid that the Congressional Republicans are going to make a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing leading up to the election, and then start finding ways to tinker around the edges of Obamacare, if that. What expansion of government in recent history have they successfully opposed? These expansions wind up being untouchable and permanent.

I prefer naive. But how has being the world's peace keeper worked out most of the past century? Besides all the gratitude we've been shown and..well, never mind. You're right. FP doesn't matter if our own house is in chaos.
We must do what's never been done since the New Deal went into effect - roll back the size and power of the US federal government - before the greed and stupidity of our politicians and bureaucrats unmake this nation as no foreign enemy has ever been able to do.
Right. And if we're able to accomplish it it will be affirmed on Libertarian principles to a great extent, but it won't be thought of as such. That's a message problem for the Libertarian movement.
libertarians as a party have been taken over by delusional pot heads. literally.
The best answer is to seed conservatives in the GOP and even the dems and ostracise the communists. make the reds red again.
