Limbaugh, GOP have it wrong: Health care law is not the largest tax increase ever

A silver lining for conservatives in the Supreme Courts health care decision Thursday is that the court allowed the law to stand based on the idea that the individual mandate was a tax.
That news has Republicans and conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh bringing out an old -- and incorrect claim -- that the health care law constitutes the largest tax increase ever.

The one thing that bothers me about this ruling is that now it seems the government can ask you to do whatever it wants and if you don’t you have to pay a penalty(tax). don’t buy that.. tax.. buy that.. tax. fun.

ALL Americans will be hit with the Individual Mandate Tax which will require a couple to pay the higher of a base tax of $1,360 per year, or 2.5% of adjusted growth income starting with lower base tax and rising to this level by 2016. Individuals will see a base tax of $695 and families a base tax of $2,085 per year by 2016.

Depends on one’s point of view. 2.5% is nominal individual.
2.5% is no where near the largest nominal individual tax increase in US history either.

Depends on ones point of view.
What I mentioned was only one of the seven new taxes that will levied on all citizens regardless of income. Besides those seven taxes, there are another 13 taxes hidden in the legislation!
