The Russian Armed Forces will take delivery of a new 9-mm handgun to replace the Makarov pistol, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said. This is part of the militarys effort to upgrade its military forces.
The Strizh handgun has said to be better performance than the Austrian-made Glock 17, a favorite of special forces worldwide, Rogozin said.
According to the article, the weapon is a 9 mm, has a slim-profile polymer frame, an easy-to-rack slide with rear and front serrations, an ambidextrous magazine release and a Picatinny rail for mounting special sights.
The pistol also features three safety mechanisms to prevent accidental firing.
The Strizh (which means Swift) holds 18-round or 30-round ammunition clips, and can be equipped with a flashlight and a laser sight.

>>In my view the Strizh is a very impressive weapon!
>>I would have to say I would certainly hate to get shot by one!
Someone should explain to the author that the 9mm round is the thing you don’t want to get shot with, and that’s the same in any 9mm pistol.
When can I get one?
do your Christmas shopping early
Looks very similar to the Springfield XD, which is a Czech design
I believe the XD is made in Croatia.
Russians copying someone else’s design. No way
Oh goody! This means that there will be a pile of Russian Makarovs for sale in America.
Dooh, You’re right
Thanks.
Got it Mixed up with the CZ Pistols
As usual the lying Russians can’t explain why their stuff is “deadlier”
or how the Strizh is better than a Ruger SR9, Glock 17, FNP-9, Sp2022 Sig, Smith&Wesson M&P, The Caracal, or the XDM 9mm.
Said to be available worldwide September 2012 through Arsenal Firearms.
It looks like a good design.
But like anything mechanical, the jury is out until it can be PROVEN in use.
Dont Makarovs take a 9x18 caliber? I have read it is a very meager round. Russian troops in Afghanistan said the only use it was was shooting yourself so you didnt get captured.
Makarov was crap, but TT-33 was one awesome gun.
As for this one AFAIK they ‘ve given prototypes to spetsnaz troops for evaluation and summed all the complains and wishes to incorporate into upgraded design. They did a few times before spetsnaz told it is ok, we want it.
Interesting pistol. Thanx for posting. Hate to see the Mak go. Great little pistol by the way. Paid less than $100 for my first one.
As per link above, looks to me like a slimmer version of the old CZ concept.
Echoing Travis McGee’s public service announcement, I recently picked up a Romanian TTC - basically the Russian TT33 design - for $220. The price is up a bit, but it’s a fine pistol. Slim, well made and uses a highly effective round that can be had for cheap. Highly recommended.
J&G Sales has ‘em along with the ammo. Get some.
