President Barack Obama asserted executive privilege moments before the House Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday sat down to discuss the contempt charge against Attorney General Eric Holder relating to his non-compliance to the committee's subpoena for thousands of documents regarding the botched gun-walking operation known as "fast and furious."
Republicans criticized the use of the executive privilege by the president.House Speaker John Boehner's spokesman Michael Steel pointed out in a statement, The "decision to invoke executive privilege implies that White House officials were either involved in the Fast and Furious operation or the cover-up that followed. The administration has always insisted that wasn't the case. Were they lying, or are they now bending the law to hide the truth?"

Good! Glad to see the Washington Times pick this up!
Jay Carney just set us straight. Everything is okay. Holder was tirelessly working to end the program started by the previous failed administration. You see? It was Bush’s fault afterall!
WHEW that is a relief. This means that the GOP can just ignore the issue, let it burn itself out before the election. I have been hearing on the news that Holder has done everything in his power to cooperate and provide the documents, so now with Carney affirming, it is all good.
Good Job.
Gittum.
Wow, based on that statement Holder was aware of F&F long before he said he found out about it. He must be psychic.
I for one will not criticize them for invoking executive privilege.
It’s an assertion they White House involved measurably and demonstrably in Fast and Furious.
Barry, your goose is cooked....in a couple of years
...maybe....I doubt it....
Two gun mag writers + internet proved more effective than the combined efforts of ALL Republican Congressmen.
Amazing.
I’m going to REMEMBER that any time a Tea Party candidate is up against a RINO, or even a not-so-bad Republican.
THROW THE BUMS OUT.
I remember the good ‘ole days when reporters fancied as they latest interation of Woodward and Berstein, and every paper wanted to have stories like Watergate. Fast and Furious is far worse than Watergate. What started as a blown DoJ operation has become a “constitutional crisis” now that we know the president was involved. Well, let’s take a page out of Rahm “Dead Fish” Emanual’s book - let’s not have this crisis go to waste!
Oh, he knew. But he wasn't trying to end the program. From Holder's April 2, 2009 statement (taken from the linked Washington Times article): "Last week, our administration launched a major new effort to break the backs of the cartels. My department is committing 100 new ATF personnel to the Southwest border in the next 100 days to supplement our ongoing Project Gunrunner, DEA is adding 16 new positions on the border, as well as mobile enforcement teams, and the FBI is creating a new intelligence group focusing on kidnapping and extortion. DHS is making similar commitments, as Secretary Napolitano will detail."
Note this was a "major new effort". He wasn't stopping anything, he was enhancing Gunrunner. Oh, and if it was "new" back on April 2, 2009, how can it be Bush's program, and Bush's fault? Hmmmmm?
By invoking executive privilege the White House has now voluntarily stepped into the swamp that is Fast and Furious, its cover-up by the Justice Department and the discovery by Congress that the Eric Holder and his department engaged in a pattern of lies and obfuscation. Their willingness to drag the Bush administration into the mud with them completes the portrait of an administration lacking in any character and integrity.
Obama administration will invoke Bush in Fast and Furious defense
Ping.
Meanwhile, in reality, it's lies...all lies!
Special mention needs to be repeatedly made that the Bush administration’s “Operation Wide Receiver” was shut down in 2007, well before these pathological liars were even in office.
Not only that, but there’s vast information out there (on Sipsy Street, today in the Washington Times, and elsewhere) that Gunwalker was announced by the administration back in March of 2009, just prior to Hillary, and Holder, visiting Mexico. Also, Obama had visited Mexico as president-elect, then as president, and discussed upcoming programs between the two countries.
Sipsy Street believed early on, that the Gunwalker, then F&F programs were developed through the State Dept’s insistance on maintaining claims of high percentages of guns walked into Mexico that had proven to be false. They needed the high percentages in order to prove that additional anti-gun legislation was necessary.
