House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. Darrell Issa told Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday that he has until Tuesday morning to produce Operation Fast and Furious documents or his committee will be voting to hold him in contempt of Congress on Wednesday.
[O]nly the delivery of documents outlined and offered by the Department of Justice last Thursday to staff will be sufficient to justify a postponement of Wednesdays scheduled vote, Issa wrote to Holder on Monday afternoon. As the department has not yet produced these document and unless it does so tomorrow morning I will not be able to offer you the committees assessment of them at tomorrows meeting.
In a letter to Issa earlier in the day, Holder asked to meet at 11 a.m. Issa responded that the meeting will take place at 5 p.m. only after his committee staff can review the promised Fast and Furious documents.
In his letter, Holder argued he had taken extraordinary steps to accommodate Issas subpoena. Issa shot back, saying, There is nothing extraordinary about an offer from a federal agency to fully or partially respond to a subpoena.
Issa also said nothing short of full compliance will be sufficient for him to negotiate a delay of contempt proceedings because Holder has not specified what documents he plans to give the committee this week and has not provided a log that includes descriptions of documents, the dates they were created, who created them, and individualized explanations for why the department believes these documents should not be produced pursuant to the subpoena.
Its unclear if Holder will actually produce the documents in time to halt the contempt of Congress vote. His spokeswoman, Tracy Schmaler, wouldnt answer when The Daily Caller asked if he will.
Good post.
He sure sounds like he is. I’m beginning to think he’s got Holder spooked. Hope I’m right and hope Issa turns the screws, no deals.
And what will happen on Wednesday?
Boehner and Holder and Obama will be lighting them up on the 13th tee.....
“”...let us hold Congress in contempt of the People.
Im weary of my Country. Its time to move to the wilderness...””
Agree! I think we’re all reaching our saturation point at the same time. Maybe some others did earlier but I find it more difficult every day to just read/listen and then walk away. I think these 3 1/2 years have made us all into something we never were before..
And what will happen on Wednesday?
Issa will cry like a boehner...?
Looks like the fit is about ready to hit the shan. :)
Put H0lder in a cell with Terry Nichols.
Which Tuesday, 2016? Let's have a date. Issa has been crying wolf on this for how long now?
What a joke. Does Issa really expect someone to turn over documents that would put them in prison?
Hey Issa, here's a news flash. Holder is an evil racist criminal. Now bust him. Gather evidence and DEMAND a special prosecutor. If one is not granted, impeach the president. They took an oath of office. They don't get to ignore the law and they are not above the law. It's time for accountability and that includes Obama.
Nothing.
The will vote to hold him in contempt, schedule a trial and go on summer vacation and not returning until October, one month before the election.
Probably used to kill of the dogs of various no-knock, wrong house victims.
See post #18
I think the oversight committee will vote to hold Holder in contempt. And then Holder will produce more documents before the full house votes to lock his butt up.
Obama has been so successful at tying up the courts, that they are thinking they can stonewall Congress and claim separation of powers. They are about to find out that only works for a little while.
That is the reason for the logs -- to determine whether the committee has received everything they have asked for.
There's no expectation that all the documents will be reviewed and correlated before 5 pm.
None of this "partial" crap, d***head. Turn them ALL over!!!!!!
Bwaaaaaaha!!! Bwaaaaaahaaaaa!!!
A Vince Fostercide is about the best Obama can hope for.
