In Case You Don't Like Romney...
Columnist Andrew McCarthy gives us what probably is the most important question regarding the upcoming presidential election
If Romney wins the nomination, as seems very likely, I will enthusiastically support his candidacy. For my friends who may have hesitation on that score, Id just ask you to keep four things in mind:
1.. Justice Scalia just turned 78
2.. Justice Kennedy will turn 78 later this year
3.. Justice Breyer will be 76 in August
4.. Justice Ginsburg turned 81 about a week ago and has had cancer twice.
Whoever we elect as president in November is almost certainly going to choose at least one and maybe more new members of the Supreme Court in addition to hundreds of other life-tenured federal judges, all of whom will be making momentous decisions about our lives for decades to come.
If you dont think it matters whether the guy making those calls is Mitt Romney or Barack Obama, I think youre smokin something funky .
So for anybody who is thinking of not voting because your favorite didnt get nominated, or writing in a candidate who can't win ... just imagine this possibility:
'SUPREME COURT JUSTICE ERIC HOLDER'
Did that get your attention!
Thank you. It is nice to be here. For the most part I am well. I have a bit of a problem which I don’t know how to describe to the docs so they can analyze and treat it. Quite literally, I spent two-and-a-half months and a few thousand dollars (in addition to what the insurance may have paid) and at the end of the time, the doc said, “I can’t find a thing wrong.” But, I know the problem is there and my family knows it. Hmmmmm.
Are you well?
Ya know, one thing I’ve realized here on FR, is that most people here have enough political sense not to deliberately shoot off their own foot by refusing to vote against obomo. The folks on FR that are ready to load and take aim at their own feet are good people believing they are doing right for how they believe and for them, perhaps that is so.
Fortunately, looking at who posts what, they are a small group on FR, maybe 3 or 4 score that show up on every thread discussing who to vote for, and most probably live in a solidly red or blue state so they can vote however they please and do no harm.
Romney is the choice if you wish to rid our Republic of the curse of the socialist obomo. He is certainly not the choice I would have pre\ferred - but then, there was never a viable alternative who ran that had a chance, any chance, to best obomo.
You folks in non-battleground states go and vote however you please, with pride. I’m in Georgia, a red state, but I will still vote for Romney b/c how much he wins by will also matter. We need to elect Rs all down the ticket to better roll back obomo’s progressive/socialist policies.
They aren’t called battleground states for nothing. If you vote in one and don’t vote Romney, don’t come whining around here when obomo packs the SCOTUS with more black-robed bringers of death to our Republic. When the EPA runs wild with more job killing regulations. When our military is further gutted just like Jimmy Carter did. When amnesty is enacted not by law but ignoring the laws already on our books. When more millions fall into poverty and onto the public dole, many of which will never again fend for themselves financially. When the national debt piles ever higher and deeper as Bernake enacts yet another round of inflationary quantatative easing. When health care costs go way up and services go way down and granny gets the plug pulled on her....
But we know how it will go. The same folks railing against Romney will be the squeakiest and loudest wheels screeching about blaming all the ills of the next four years on the GOPe or some such crap. Wake up and smell the coffee. We either vote against obomo or we vote for him. I choose to vote for our Reepublic and against obomo.
Bump to the top!
NO to Mr. RomneyCARE
NO to RINOs.
NO to LIARS.
NO to Backstabbers like Bishop RomneyCARE and
his Troop of trained attackers against Conservatives.
thanks, trisham
I have been on the opposite side of this argument since day one. Now, I agree with you, not necessarily on the merits of the argument presented here but because we must not allow Obama to have a second term to continue to do wanton damage to this nation and it’s institutions.
If Romney fails to live up to constitutional standards, then we remove him in 2016. We will not reclaim the nation in one election and we must not allow our distaste of Romney to stand in the way of winning this important battle.
And may God forgive me if I am wrong.
There is danger in posting anything pro-Romney on this site. Considering some of these comments it might be best if we kept our thoughts to ourselves...I fear for our country.
I will vote only for conservatives. Neither Obama or Romney are conservatives.
How about neither? Works for me. Your vote is yours. My vote is mine.
You are not going to persuade people by insulting them. Insults are not persuasive.
Here’s a good sign of support. Campaigns cost m-o-n-e-y. My little $35 to Romney don’t mean much (but I hope there are a million other $35 contributions)
Adelson Gives $10 Million to Pro-Romney Super PAC

Mine either.
There will be so many disappointed in him if he gets elevated. Hope they don't do what the typical liberal does....claim they didn't vote for him.
His appointees will depend on the Senate. Unless it's an overwhelmingly conservative Senate lacking Rinos, then in his first term we'll be treated to judicial appointees who have little record but are covert liberals. If there were a 2nd term it would be blatant liberals.
And I agree with you, trisham, agreeing with the others re: SoConPubbie.
Reagan wasn’t a conservative by some peoples standards.
“Every election cycle, same old scare.
Last time I checked, we are living the real outcome of that scare. With as bad as McCain was, think of all the things we wouldn’t be living through right now if he was elected.”
Yep, voted for Juan for Supreme reasons... Same old scare. He was my Last RINO.
Yet he recently told the Washington Post here that he believes:
"If two people of the same gender want to live together, want to have a loving relationship, even want to adopt a child ... in my view, that's something which people have the right to do, but to call that marriage is, in my view, a departure from the real meaning of the word."
What statists like Romney mean by "right" is to deny adoption agencies the right to refuse to give a child entrusted to them to a homosexual couple. If you are a landlord who would just as soon not accommodate open homosexual lifestyles in your community and refused to rent to a gay or lesbian couple who wanted to "start a family," the statist mindset of Romney is to punish you because Romney agrees with the premise that discriminating that way is immoral, and that the government has a role in preventing it.
That is enforcing a gay "right" at the sacrifice of your right to make choices you consider moral.
Hate of someone else is a real bad reason to vote for that.
ABO is risking having it in the White House as the Republican party's most powerful representative -- even worse, risking a landslide of votes for Romney that would most likely be spun into another Mitt Myth, of being elected because he was loved -- ABO would quickly be pushed into the ashheap of history.
Barring a miracle, the reality is that we're going to have one of two amoral authoritarian statists as the next president. Fear and hate are deceptive, bad guides, in choosing the best way to deal with it.
The Obomneybots can share the blame among themselves. I’m not accepting it.
However, in a too close to call State, it is possible Obama
could win by a margin equal to the conservatives that refuse to vote for Romney out of principle. It is in these States such voters are essentially indicating they would rather have the First Gay President elected for another term than vote for Romney.
I have been keeping a list of States that could be too close to call according to news reports. In no particular order these States are:
Colorado
Florida
Ohio
Iowa
Virginia
North Carolina
Wisconsin
New Hampshire
Michigan
Arizona
Nevada
Pennsylvania
I would plead to Freepers in the States above to consider it may be your vote or lack thereof the gets Obama re-elected.
What about Reagan didn’t they like — his pro-life, pro-America, pro-God, pro-gun, pro-fiscal restraint beliefs?
Or was it just Nancy? :>)
He started this whole amnesty debacle.
