In 2011, Iran launched a Tareq-class submarine, "Younus," which sailed alongside Tehran's 14th fleet of into the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Younus is pictured above. If this is the kind of stuff they're building, no need to worry.

A nuclear submarine is not a good idea in shallow waters because given all the extra equipment you need to cool the reactor, that generates a LOT of noise. That's why diesel-electric submarines are preferred in shallower waters, since by running on batteries alone the noise signature is extremely low.

The Iranians claim their subs are the best in the world with the astounding capability of going all the way to the ocean floor and stay there in there stealthly and indefinitely.

I saw Gilligan build this in one episode. It sunk in the lagoon after Gilligan forgot to put a hatch on it.

It will be powered by cryptonite, of course, so it will be Superman-proof.

They are just at the design stage...if any intelligence actually exists in the Iranian navy, they will quickly realize that they would be far better off buying a boat from Russia. Otherwise, I invite them to knock themselves out! Literally.

They won’t just be building a submarine. They have to create the entire infrastructure required to build the boat, as well as that required to train personnel to man and operate it. It will be an economic black hole for them.

Nothing to worry about, yet. Not worrying about Iran’s nuclear program worked out so well for us, didn’t it? I’m sure they just want to build nuclear submarines for “peaceful industrial use”.

Actually, I think it’s nice of Iran to support ocean life by supplying artificial reefs like these. That’s very eco of them.

I think they stole the plans from Poland — including the screen door.
