No, because he has insisted on trying to make the game and the league into something that it is not. By putting teams in cities where they clearly cannot be supported by a fanbase, just so he can have a “better” TV market package to sell to a major network. He has taken almost all of the physical aspect of the game away to the point where checking is discouraged, penalized and fined. In the name of parity, he has punished teams that do things right by drafting and developing players (detroit, chicago, etc.) so that hockey wastelands like Raleigh Durham, Nashville, and Phoenix can look somewhat competitive. He’s an annoying little man that has never put on a pair of skates. Actual hockey fans see the slow death of their game happening at his hands just like average Americans see liberals ruining their American dream one day at a time.
It’s over? Finally. Now let’s get on with a real sport.
I hope he gets cancer and AIDS.

Oh and my bona fides: I've played hockey for 35 years and am a level 3 official. All 3 of my sons play, the oldest of whom was a AA travel high school goalie....oh and one other thing, clown, we live in the "hockey wasteland" of North Carolina.

Bettman didn’t make the team lose their nut. That was the coach, should have called a time out after the second goal instead of yelling at the refs. If the coach’s head isn’t in the game the team’s won’t be. Even if the non-call was bad (borderline in my book) their penalty kill had been good enough to handle a 5 minute major. You can’t stay angry after the drop of the puck, not in the finals.
Early in his reign Bettman did some dumb moves. The whole “f Canada” era was pretty shameful. Totally prostituting the league chasing a broadcast contract (the Fox glowpuck). But in the last decade and change he’s gotten it together. I still enjoy the booing of Bettman (LA crowd was a little mellow on that) partly for the humor, but the recent results (10 year 200 mil a year TV contract, and getting a team back in Winnipeg) have been good. But a lot of folks will never forgive him for coming from the NBA and starting is tenure with a clear goal of making hockey more like basketball.
As I said before, I’m no fan of Bettman’s either. I agree with everything you said.
A sport where the fan viewing the activity can actually see what is going on.

Couple of questions for you. Do you remove the corn cob pipe that you chew on during the game when you blow the whistle or are you able to keep it wedged in with your cheek full of dip? Also, do your kids helmets have the favorite NASCAR driver’s number on the side or just fancy racing stripes? I also heard that Atlanta had a hockey team...twice...how’d that hotbed of hockey work out?
