(Obama's) Clueless appeal to aid gov’t workers
NY Post ^ | Jun. 9, 2012 | JOHN PODHORETZ

A startlingly listless President Obama appeared in the White House press room yesterday morning, spoke some dull preliminaries about the European financial crisis — and then slipped and tumbled headfirst into re-election quicksand from...

--snip--

In part, Obama needs to be able to say, “The private sector is fine,” because a healthy private sector is essential for his plans to increase the size of government — after all, the money to pay for it has to come from somewhere.

Indeed, he said, “The private sector is fine,” to provide what he thought would be a sobering contrast to the condition of the public sector. But this is the point that really shows the tone-deafness behind those five extremely unfortunate words.

Obama’s explanation for the slowdown in economic growth is that the public sector is hurting, and that’s where Washington must step in and act.

“Where we’re seeing weaknesses in our economy have to do with state and local government. Oftentimes, cuts initiated by, you know, governors or mayors who are not getting the kind of help that they have in the past from the federal government,” he said. “And so, you know, if Republicans want to be helpful, if they really want to move forward and put people back to work, what they should be thinking about is how do we help state and local governments.”

The president seriously wants to go before the American people and argue in an election year that the wildly unpopular $860 billion stimulus of 2009 needs to be supplemented this year by more direct federal support of state and local government workers?

I’m trying very hard to think of a way this argument is not politically insane for Obama in his quest to win over independent voters who will make the difference in November...

I’m guessing that Obama does these pressers with a hidden wireless ear bud. That might account for the long pauses and delayes and bumbling.

I wonder if Valerie Jarret or Axlerod is the voice feeding him the replies?

Poached Eggs and Smoked Salmon with Dill Moraise Sauce — yum! But what’s the connection to Jimmy Carter?

I’d bet on it.

It’s pretty obvious that Zero had to wing this without a prepared script. I hear that TOTUS was missing in action at this press conference.

It does not bode well for obama when even the teleprompter won't attempt his speeches - LOL!

The private sector is fine...

Obama just handed the Republicans a whole month of campaign commercials for this fall. Just show Obama saying this as economic numbers scroll up the screen...layoffs, unemployment, people on food stamps, etc.

My guess is that Obama's listless press conference performance from Friday will be all over the talk radio shows this coming week.

The truth here is that Obama thinks ‘recovery’ is when government grows bigger; doesn’t realize government is paid for by the private sector; is ignorant on the basics of our economy...

Too true. What else could possibly prompt a man who's presiding over the worst economic conditions since the Great Depression to remark, "The private sector is doing fine."?

Professor Obama obviously still believes that money and wealth come from Washington, and that people who have more of both, have gotten them through sheer luck, gift, trickery, or outright theft.

He knows that's how he and his friends all achieved their own wealth, so why isn't that true for the whole economy? It simply has to be, don't you see?

This was his Moraise moment...ala jimma carter.

I think you meant 'malaise', as in the famous speech by Jimmy Carter.

I agree that it was a terrible moment for him, but I'm not convinced that he drove a stake through his own heart with that press conference. Democrat voters have proven to be extremely resistant to demonstrated incompetence and ignorance.

I suspect after this stellar performance Axelrod and Jerrett will go back to events that are teleprompter only. I've noticed over the last month or so he's trying to ween himself off the prompter, obviously with little success.

Zero wants so badly to be the thing he's been pretending to be for so long. It must crush his little heart to realize that he really doesn't have the skills that his sycophants think he does.

On the other hand, knowing Zero, he probably blamed his poor performance on George Bush's showing him up at the portrait unveiling last week. Betcha that's still stuck in the narcissist's craw.

The reason Public sector employees are being laid off is because the stimulus money that was used to hire them in the first place is running out. Using more stimulus to hire additional Public sector employees will end up the same, with us being further in debt.

It’s hard to find tears for government bow wows, retiring after 23 years of service with lifetime pensions and health care.

It sure is, and if you think about it, Obama himself has been 'on the job' even less time than that. I recall seeing his net worth somewhere, and thinking how obscenely high that was for a man who's never produced a single hour of valuable work for others in his entire life.

Obama is a dull one dimensional little man attempting to elevate himself, not by standing on the shoulders of Great Americans who preceded him, but by diminishing their greatness, in order that his inferior intellect, character and ideologies will seem formidable in the wake of toppled American “mythological” greatness. He is “The Great Destroyer.”

No wonder Zero ran out of the room after 5 minutes of questions. His handlers were probably off camera giving him the “cut” sign.

If these people have a single shred of human decency in their bodies, they must have trouble looking themselves in the mirror or sleeping at night. They have perpetuated the biggest fraud in American history, and they know that others see it.

TOTUS probably got sick of being used and abused by The One. I'm sure he broke himself on purpose, so that he wouldn't be embarrassed by Zero again. LOL

“...when he revealed in a Charley Gibson interview prior to the election that he was unaware that reductions in capital gains taxes had historically increased revenues to the treasury?”

Oh, dear no. It is MUCH worse than that. In that interview and (even better) in the debates (maybe the last Demorat primary debate) he made it clear he knew capital gains tax cuts raised revenues. In the debate audio you can hear the exasperation in his voice as he says it is not about revenue; it is about FAIRNESS.

He doesn’t give a fig about revenue — he wants to punish people with money.

What an economically obtuse illiterate we have for POTUS.

He doesn’t realize the private sector is the goose that lays the golden eggs required to support the government parasites.

He believes government is like a tick, and that even by swelling the size of government handouts and employees to unbelievable proportions, will not kill the private sector host.

Wrong. When the tick is taking in more than the host is capable of supplying, the host will lay down and die. Our federal, state, and local government’s take of our income has become a tick as large as its host. Think of your dog with a tick the size of itself. The dog is not going to make it....

He’s incapable of recognizing the host is on life support, and refuses to quit sucking out the host’s life blood, or he simply desires the whole system to crash, thinking that average Americans will beg for the government to take care of them, and he will forever change the USA into another socialist utopia where we are all equally miserable.

I think he’s wrong. We will not stand for it. The tick must be removed and killed, so our private sector can recover.

I only hope we elect enough true conservatives to do the job that must be done before we go over the cliff.

But, regardless, the end is near for the tick, because as a wise man once said, “Things that can not continue, won’t.”

We are truly living in interesting times, and are at a historical inflection point. We will either self-correct, and return to a more constitutionally limited government; or we will turn to government socialism to provide a miserable standard of living for us all.

I’m betting on the American spirit to prevail, and to once again throw off the yoke of government.

Tea Party!
