Please don't delete this thread from "Breaking News". I was a delegate to the 2012 Texas GOP Convention in Fort Worth, Texas. The member of the Nominations Committee in question was from my congressional district, and I voted for her to be on the committee based on an endorsement from a respected member of my county's convention delegation. I am currently in transit south bound on I-35 going home after the convention.

Local paper said the planned walkout on Straus never got to fully develop because they never introduced him and his talk only lasted 2 minutes and he was done.

So are you saying it is a good thing Straus got bounced from the National Convention or were you taken aback by the state delegate’s actions?

Hard to say much without more information, but at first blush this seems a little “banana republic” — “I’ve decided that you’re out, because I’ve decided I want to take your place”.

No, I think it was a despicable abuse of power and trust. I am working on limited battery power and a mobile WiFi hotspot in my cell phone, so I won't be able to post much till after I get home. I would have never voted to put this woman on the nominations committee if I had known she would abuse her position like this.

How about some context? This is a little too inside-politics / local for some of us. That said, drive safe and update us when you get home.

I love it!

If you like Nancy Pelosi, you'd love Joe Straus!

Could you please explain what in Hell the Texas Republicans think they’re doing supporting illegal immigration? The following thread is generating a lot of comments, and few are positive.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — The Texas Republican Convention has approved a party platform on immigration conceding that mass deportation of illegal immigrants isn’t practical and calling for “common ground” to develop more-realistic strategies.

I’m not driving.

The Speaker was supposed to be on a list of VIP’s that are supposed to be on the delegate list, but the delegate list can only be accepted in whole or rejected by the convention. It is not subject to amendment on the convention floor.

I’ve got just 25 minutes of laptop battery left, so I’ll have to follow this thread from my cell phone.

Ok I figured as much that Pelosi equals Straus but.......I am not sure I understand the antagonism for Straus...is there a history to it.....because when folks PLAN to walk out during your speech and you come on stage not being introduced to combat that....something is amiss....what is the story?

I have a friend who helped run the TEA Party table at the convention and he shared with me that Straus had to go but I did not get any context out of him on it...can you share what you know?

Staus declared war on conservatives in the Texas House so how can you be upset? He got what he deserved, IMO. I can't stand the guy.

Straus redistricted so that he could get rid of the conservatives who voted against him for speaker. How can you defend that?

My district lost our conservative St. Rep and he lost in his new district...all orchestrated by Straus.

I have no problem with that. Joe is a criminal in my book and has no business attending any Texas GOP convention.

Joe Staus should be thrown out of the Republican party if you ask me.

A source, Nana, please.

Everything I’ve seen so far this year has Romney backing away from that position. His online campaign site states:

* * * * * * * * * * * *
A Strong Stand Against Illegal Immigration

•Secure The Border

•Turn Off The Magnets

•Enforce The Law

•Oppose Amnesty

Note: I am definitely not a supporter of Mitt Romney, but is sure doesn’t look to me as if he would be welcoming of the Texas back-stabbing.

Texas politics. Don’t even try to make sense of it if you’re north of the Red River.

That said, we do get the big things right.
